Title: Engraving glass or laser engraving wood
Post by: sfoxwoody on April 17, 2015, 08:38:22 PM
I was wondering if any of you have ever had the underside of a glass surface custom engraved for a pot call, or had a wood tone board engraved? Some friends are wanting some customizing done on there calls and I was thinking this would look the best, if you have do you use local people or send them off to someone? I'd like to see some pictures if you have any. Thanks!

I do a lot of custom design calls for people.  Here are my thoughts, and they are just my opinion, so some may or may not agree with me.  I like to design the back of the call.  It leaves a larger area for your work.  I put the soundholes in around the edges, and it does not effect the quality or volume any, if anything, it is louder, due to your not muffling holes with your hand when they are on the back.  Now the advantage to this is 1) you get a larger surface for your design.  2) You won't obscure the image like if it were under the glass surface from conditioning the glass.  3)  It gives  you more selections for surfaces to use.  Your not restricted to using glass.  4) It gives you another place to do more design, when using a glass surface, such as putting a feather in on the soundboard.   I send all my stuff out to be laser engraved, then come back and hand paint them.  Some examples.
