Title: Big Strutter in a Field
Post by: jbrown on April 15, 2015, 01:16:41 PM
I saw a BIG gobbler struttin on a little rise in a field at 11:00 today, NO hens  were in the field. Over the yrs, I've seen several birds struttin on this rise, I know it is a strut zone. I plan to be there before light in the mornin, my question, the gobbler is 75yds from the tree line, would you use decoys or not?? If you do, would it be 1 hen, 2 hens or 1 jake, or a hen and jake??? This gobbler is the boss of this 40 acre field.

on that my decoy spread would be a jake and hen placed close or in a breeding pair and a second hen offset.

this gives the bird options, challenge the jake or approach and try and steal the lone hen away
