any of you guys ever bend/straighten barrel (whatever you want to call it) to adjust POI to POA?
I realize this will elicit some 'how stupid' remarks....just curious as to how many have experience at doing this....
That is not a stupid question. But changing chokes and shells can change your poi. Your barrel may be straight as an arrow. Why bend it when you may be ruining a perfectly good gun? Put an aftermarket sight on it.
I haven't personally but I've known a few old timer trap shooters to do so. Using a bag of shot and a truck tailgate. Used to be a common thing in the clay target community.
There's but talk on here about how poi changes with how tight you make the barrel tightening cap or choke and shell combo.

I know 2 professional gunsmiths who have jigs to bend barrels. I've seen it done over a period of days with those devices but not anything I'd attempt.

Thanks....found it...lol...that thread went just about like I thought it would..apparently this is more common than I thought..I was actually surprised you had a couple of advocates....not saying I'm for or against, its your gun, its your money, do whatever you want with it.......

Have an old 870 bbl I'm getting ready to let my gunsmith bend. Shoots left with all chokes and loads. Don't think I mind so much bending an old 870 barrel or something like that but taking a Beretta or Benelli barrel and bending it would be tough. I would probably just put aftermarket sights or a red dot on it and call it a turkey gun. On the other hand if you want to use it for anything else or shoot beads which allot of folks prefer..what good is a gun that won't hit where you are aiming?
just shimm the stock using small amounts of folded alum.foil.almost every gun I get I have to shimm,and never had any problems
I know it was discussed in the other thread.....and I'm just asking, not trying to stir anything up, but I cannot figure out how if your eye is aligned and looking straight down the rib with the bead in the middle, and you're aiming with that bead how shimming a stock makes a difference?

Custom gun builders fit a gun to the shooter by making stock adjustments. I believe they will even bend a wood stock. Shimming does essentially the same thing.
