Birds were very quiet yesterday. Spot #1 produced nothing even though it's completely tore up with birds.
Got to spot #2 after lunch at 1pm. That urge hit me so I had to take care of business, and then went to the top of a small hill and sat in the shade of a cedar tree. I yelped a few times and waited.
Not 5 minutes later here comes a small flock...2 hens, red head, another red head, more hens...I saw the beard one one of the toms so I waited for him to stop in a clear spot and I shot him dead.
It's my heaviest bird at 23 lbs 9 oz. healthy 2 year old. No gobbling or strutting, they were weird after the big cold front.
