Title: Ocala NF Pipeline
Post by: davisd9 on March 27, 2015, 03:44:52 PM
Been hard hunting so far. Have seen hens every hunt. Partner saw a jake and hen yesterday. No Toms and no gobble, hopefully our luck changes.

This weekend's cool weather should get them gobbling!! :icon_thumright:
Ocala is a tough place to hunt. They only started allowing turkey hunting in there about 10 years ago. If you can, get down by Lake George, or find some oak hammock/swampy areas. Stay away from the oak scrub/pine and palmetto areas. Best of luck man!! :anim_25:

Ran my mouth yesterday on here and it bit me today. Heard nothing on the roost so buddy and I split. Decided to go to area he saw hen and jake. Get the marker in sight and I hear the ole boy.

He was gobbling in swampy area when I heard him. Went iHe was gobbling in swampy area when I heard him. Went in and got off the side about 30 yards from thick stuff.

I yelped on a slate and he gobbled. Shut up and he gobbled. He would not budge. I switched to mouth call and he fired up. Came from my left to right. Then he cackled to my left so I swung around tree just a little.

He was silent and so was I. Heard movement to my right and finally spotted a white head 30 yards out and then ptt durum. He walked about 5-10 yards in my opening. I shot and he flew up. Everything felt right. Opening was a little trashy but have killed in much worse. Flight of wad was right. Guess my move around tree twisted me and shot was not as good as it felt.

Well I got one more hunt to make up for it but I go to dance. It was man vs beast, eye to eye and man to man. Another plus is April 1 is only 3 days away and I will be in my home stadium!
