The woods where I usually hunt are being timbered. Does anyone know how that will affect my turkey hunt this year? Anyone have experience hunting newly timbered woods?
I know my neighbor cleared out his woods with a loader and i still killed birds the same year. Did Not seem to bother them. For the last wo years the neighboring property cleared out all the honeysuckle and the birds don't seem to mind... Scout hard and often... Good Luck :icon_thumright:
I have hunted a lot of freshly timbered woods. As long as logging is complete a few weeks before your season opens it won't be much of a problem. Birds will change their patterns some due to activity in the woods but I they should settle back down pretty quick. I know we are coming into mud season here so there won't be much logging going on.

It won't and after a couple years the logging roads will be covered in fresh greens which will result in a lush feeding ground (shoots, bugs, etc) and also possible strutting zones and easier access to your hunting grounds. This is at least what happened where I hunt here in NY. It has became one of my most favorite spots. Good luck this season.
One of the properties that I hunt was timbered three years ago and it pushed all the birds off the property for a few months. They cut out a line of trees where I had seen turkeys regularly roost in for ten+ years. Having said all that, I believe the main problem was that they timbered right up to the opener.
Now (a few years later) there are more turkeys there than ever. They roost in different locations, but they love the woods that was timbered.
we do logging and we have timbered on property that also gave us permission to hunt we would hunt then change into work clothes and have at it does not hurt at all we see game while we are working all the time
if they cut down known roost areas it can absolutely change their habits. My neighbor did a hard select cut on his 29 acres. Now there is very little roost areas on his side. This has benefited me greatly. I'm sure they will use his property for nesting though.
Last year, they were doing construction (road work and a cement pad) on one of the properties I hunt, and tractor work to clear out areas of brush.
Apparently there was one bird that was actually attacking the guys working... They stopped just before the season, and although I did not kill that bird, there were birds there that were not there previous to the road work.
I took two birds off that property last season...
Severely years ago, a friend and I had a bird working us and we could see tree tops coming down in the distance.
It will bother some, and it won't others. Just a toss up really
