I shoot either a 20" on a 835 or a 24" on a BPS. I know 26" and 28" are common. Never turkey hunted with one over 24. Thoughts on the longer
Remington 870 26" barrel
switching from a 28" to a 21" on my 870 this year
My SBE II and Remington 870 both have 26 inch barrels.
i have used 24, 26, and 28. i prefer the 24 and wish benelli made a shorter barrel for the sbe2
28 inch barrel for my 12 gauge. And 24 for 20 gauge
21". :OGturkeyhead:
21 inch on my 870
For those who have shot a short and a long barrel is there a difference noticable on patterns at say 40 yards?
Had a 21 now I have a 26 because it will out pattern .
20" thought it was 21" but it's not. Remington 870 predator/Turkey.
28" on my New A5....
Longer barrels pattern better for me...

browning maxus 26" ...love the gun
A 26" on my SX2 and a 23" on my 11-87.
Remington 870 with 26" barrel. Always heard that most long barrels will pattern better, but I'm sure that all depends on the gun.
Rem 870 28"
835 24 in
870 26 in
1300 22 in
24 inch barrel on an 835 with extended (~1 inch) Mossberg choke. 26 inch on an 870 Express with an Indian Creek tube, so probably 28" total or so
My 870 has a 24" barrel.
26 on the 12 and 21 on the 20.
sbe 2 with 26" barrel. no complaints although I think shorter barrels look better.
I have always hear longer barrels pattern better as it is I have a 26inch on my 870
26" on my 870, and 23" on my SP10
:gobble: New gun is a 24 and old faithful is a 26. Al Baker
24" 835
Sent from my iPhone that I ain't smart enough to use with tapatalker
Winchester is 21" and the single shot is 24".
I wish the single was closer to 21" - I just prefer a shorter barrel, lighter and easier to carry.
23" on my 870
26" barrels on both my Benelli SBE 12 ga., and my Encore 20 ga.
28" with an Indian Creek on my SBE II. I feel like I am carrying around a canoe paddle. I really want a 24" barrel for it but they want an arm and a leg for it. It will be cheaper for me to get an 835 which i may do down the line.
went form rem 870 sm 22 to sbe2 26 world of difference in patterns
BPS 10 ga. 24 inch
Rem. 870SM 12 ga. 20 and 26 inch
Benelli SBE I 12 ga. 24 inch
Benelli Nova 20 ga. 24 inch
Rem 870 20 ga. 26 inch
Knight TK 2000ML 12 ga. 26 inch
My 835 came with a 28" barrel, picked up a 20" for it this winter and that's what I'll be turkey hunting with. Everything else I put the 28" on
24" 835.

870 with a 26

Had an 870 SM with 26"
Shot friends SX3 with 26"
Have a Browning Gold 3.5 with 28"
Getting SBE2 with 26"
I am not a fan of short barrels.... Personal preference.
21" on my BPS.
26"
24inch on my 835
20 inch on my 20ga
My 535 has a 20" and my 870 20 gauge has a 28".
21"870 12 gauge. 21"1187 12 gauge. 21"870 20 gauge.
870 20ga=21"
Baikal mp18 20 ga=24"
870 12 ga=28"
935=24" for turkey/28" for waterfowl
If i had to buy another shotgun it would have a 26".The best of both worlds IMO
20 gauge 11-87 has a 26" barrel and my 12 gauge 11-87 has a 21" barrel.
I love a short barrel, 20 to 24. Although the gun I'm shooting this year is a 26".
23. Wish it was a 26.
Gotta say, I'm highly impressed with the maturity level of this thread. Lots of low hanging fruit, particularly that last one.
As far as turkey guns go, I've always figured the shorter barrels equated to lighter weight and less gun to snag on limbs while walking through the woods. I've never owned a dedicated turkey gun per say, so I can't really speak on the matter. However, I've never had any issue killing turkeys with 26" and 28" barrels so long as there wasn't an invisible sapling between the muzzle and his head.

25.5 on the 870 special purpose, 27" with the Sumtoy installed!
20" on the 12 gauge and 21" on the 20 gauge
26" BPS & 28" Rem 11-87. Both 12 ga.
26" on my 870 sm 24" on 835
Seems almost down the middle. Was looking into a more all around semi auto. Been looking at one with a 28". Hoping it would pattern good with a turkey choke. I know the 28" would be great on waterfowl
I changed mine to a 23" on my 870 with a Kicks Gobblin Thunder. I shoot 3.5" Winchester Extended Range #6 and get right at 100 pellets in a pie plate at 40 yards. I bought some 3.5" #5 and some 3" #6 Longbeards to pattern before season. May put the 26" barrel back on just to see what it does as well.

For what it's worth, I got over 200 in a 10" circle at 40 yards with my 870 and Win LB 3" #6. Give it a try. There is a reason everybody is talking about them and using them.
About 6 1/2 inches ohh you mean gun I have a few but most often my 26 inch 870
I will let you know what it does out of both length barrels.
Shot a 21" 870 for years, now shoot sbe 26"...both guns have awesome patterns. To me, not much diff in the woods.
24" on my 835
22",24",26",28" just depends on which one i want to shoot one with that day.
26" on an SBE II
24" on my Stoeger M3500. :turkey2:

I shoot a 20 barreled 835.
Short barreled guns are hard to get big numbers out of, but I still get right close to 200 in the 10 at 40, and the pattern she throws will kill any bird walking. They are nice to tote through the woods though.
18" out of my daughters 870 20 compact, and 26" out of my SBE.
I started out with a 28" barrel on my Mossberg 500, then switched to a 20". It still shoots to point of aim and kills turkeys reliably. It's a lot nicer to carry, especially when its riding on your shoulder on a sling and not catching on every branch overhead.
I prefer a 20" barreled shotgun in the woods for the same reasons I prefer a 20" barreled carbine in the woods instead of a 28" barreled rifle.
26 for me! Never been bothered by the extra barrel length!
23" for my 11-87
18 or 22. I have longer but I dont like them any longer.
23" on my 870 sps
23" on my 870 and 24" on my BPS.
I prefer 24" barrels for turkey hunting
34"...20ga. flintlock.
28" on the maxus

X2..I have a 26 inch on my SBE2 and a 28 inch on the Super Vinci
It all depends really. I've got several options. Some of which are loaners. Want to try my buddy's double barrel 410 this year. I believe they are about 22" but I'd have to double check. My neighbor has a Mossberg 410 pump that patterns quite well and he wants me to give it a whirl this year. My SX2 has a 26" barrel and I don't like carrying it much because of the length but the 835 has a 24". I've found that 2" makes a big difference when we get into the brush choked areas. To be honest, I'm jealous of the guys that have the 20" barrels but I've not been real impressed with the patterns of the shorter guns.
Both of my SX3'S have 28 inch barrels
21"
Has anybody ever noticed a real difference in pattern or reach out and touch-ability between a 28" barrel and a shorter barrel?
870 - 21"
500 - 24"
