Title: Hevi results, not too sure?
Post by: Cutt on March 23, 2011, 05:29:49 PM
Guess I was expecting to get better numbers?

11-87 Super Mag, 23in. polished barrel, .665 Jellyhead, 10in. circle @ 40 yards.

Hevi 3in. 2 oz. #6's -------97
Hevi 3in. 2oz. #7's --------152
Hevi 3.5in. 2.25oz. #6's --204
Hevi 3.5in. 2.25oz. #7's-- 216

Although the 3in. #7's was not that high in the 10in. circle, it seemed to be the best overall even pattern?
With the vast majority of the shot in a even 20in. circle.

If I go with any of these, I'm thinking first shell chambered 3in. #7, followed by 2-3.5 #6's?

Any opinions? Thanks

I got alot better patterns out off a 660 jelly head than the 665 with the 7s.

but with what you shot I would go with the 3.5 6s

Get yourself a Jellyhead .660 and expect close to 300 in the 10" @ 40 yards with either the 3" or 3 1/2" Hevi 7's.  Just make sure the Lot # is not 300488 on the 3.5" loads.

That's what I'm reading with a .660 and #7's, although I read good numbers with a .665 and 6's?

Was kind of hoping for better #'s in the 3in 6's is what I was after? Didn't get the #'s in 3in 6's with a .665, and just kind of hesitant getting a .660? will it really do better? being the .665 didn't with the 6's?

I patterned my sbe 2 brand new and I really cleaned the barrel.  I bought a jellyhead .660 and heavy 13   3 and 3.5 inch 7s.  I shot at a dot in card board at a measured 40 yrds the 3 inch gave me more shot and a better pattern at 40 . I counted the 3 inch in 10 at 40 and it was 203 .  I never even counted the 3.5 because it wasnt as good.. I was kind of dissapointed I thought I would get more by what everyone was saying . Definetely good enough to hunt with but I need to do more with different chokes and e.d,s . Once it warms back up I am going to try again.. I did shoot several times and cleaned with a bore snake between shots..50 yrds I shot but it was terrible...

Why you say that about the lot number.  If I remember that was the lot number on the ones I have test with.    Now with the 1187 they work good with a little smaller choke.

I would say all 4 are capable of killing a turkey, I would put my $$$ on the last 3.  i'm more curious about the 10 inches to the left, right, up and down (30 inch circle) is that part of the pattern uniform?  I like to look at that as well in case of operator error and I pull the shot a little, is a turkey still going to get hit by enough pellets?
