Just needed some feedback on some guns. I bought my sons a Mossberg Bantam 500A 20ga Turkey model years ago when he was born. He likes it but I'm looking for a good youth model semiautomatic in 20ga. Any suggestions?
Preferably something I can adjust LOP as he grows and I'm not a fan of Remington.
Check out the Mossy 500 Bantam 20 guage. A friend of mine bought one for his 10 year old and he killed his first turkey with it. http://www.mossberg.com/product/shotguns-pump-action-mossberg-500-super-bantam-500-super-bantam-turkey/54157
I go him the same one except the year I bough it they offered a limited run of a different Mossy Oak finish. It's a great gun, I'm just trying to find a semiauto that offers the same benefits. We have his LOP fit perfect with a limbsaver for when he shoots 3" out of it. I recently bought 60 rds of 20ga #6 Hevishot for 40 at a local pawnshop. I watched it sit there for 9+ months. I'll be interested to see how it patterns with a tight wad ported choke out of his gun. Personally, I've always used good old 3 1/2 inch #5 federals. But I guess I'll see what the Hevishot talk is about. If it's what they says it is, I might take my 20ga out this Spring instead of my 12!
I shoot the Hevi 7's in my 835 and they flat out smoke noggins. If you can find the right choke with those 6's, you'll have a turkey killin machine. Throw a post up for your gun and see what choke people recommend? I think you will be very happy with the Hevi 6's.
I just bought my kids a Mossy sa20. Its a nice soft shooting little gun and It will shoot 135-140s at 30 yards with the factory full and 2 3/4 HEVI #6s which to me is perfect for young hunters. I've also heard good things about the Weatherby sa-08. I hear both are Turkish made and very similar.
I ordered the Mossy from Buds Guns. They had the best prices by a long shot and for like 20 bucks extra I got the lifetime warranty. I couldn't pass it up.
Might also want to check out the Escort Youth semi's. They are also Turkish made. Got one for my daughter last year and seems to be a very solid made gun. Paid right around 500 for it in 20 gauge fully camo and I think a 22 inch barrel. Takes Rem-chokes too.
Thanks guys! I might just have to save up some more money to get him the semiauto and keep the bantam 20ga. I'll do my homework. Much appreciated on the input. I love this forum!
