Sorry for teasing ya. Got this one in a call trade with Lonnie Jr.
OH NO! I love my hot hen. I was planning to get his boss hen at some point... Looks like I planned for too long.
Do you notice much of a difference between the hot hen and the raspy boss hen's sound?
I am not sure I will ever get to know.
Deeper, more mature hen than Hot Hen. Just a bigger diameter version. I would trade one for a quality crystal pot.
Did Lonnie stop making calls all together...or just that model?
Just that model. He is still turning them out at 78
I have two of Lonnie's Hot Hen slates. One has a 3-inch playing surface and one has a 3 1/2-inch playing surface. Lonnie actually asked me to send my 3-inch call back to him to see if he could duplicate the sound. It is that good. I just laughed and told him that I do not trust the mail system well enough to take a chance on them loosing or damaging it. I also have a Raspy Boss Hen. It has a 3-inch playing surface. It has a Red Cedar ring and Yellow Poplar body, identical to my 3-inch Hot Hen. Both have wood sound boards. I have talked to Lonnie a bunch and for some reason I think he told me the 3-inch Hot Hen and Raspy Boss Hens were the same calls with different names stenciled on them.
Thats what he told me. There the same call. If one comes turns out real raspy it gets labeled raspy hen. Chuck
Well I've ot 2 hot hens I'll just label one a raspy boss hen, lol
My raspy boss hen is 3-3/4" with some 100 year old Chestnut. I'll post pics and a sound file in a couple days.
