When Hevi has their stuff together they are a great load...... But I got VERY frustrated with the inconsistency of the product.... When the longbeards came along (at less than half the price) I ditched hevi like a bad habit.!!!

I am done as well. Shot a new lot of 3.5" 6s and the pattern is way down from my old lots. Fortunately I stocked up from the longbeard craze so I am set a while, but my next shells will be nitro

With the straight #7s yes. That's the reason I'm shooting Nitros now and reloading my own next year.

Were the shells from the same box and did you clean the barrel/choke between shells? That can make a difference.

I've never seen 2 different wads come out of the same box of shells.

the barrel was cleaned between shots and was cleaned prior to shooting and both shells came from the same box

Don't be so fast to jump on the nitro train the will vary just as much as the hevi loaded stuff. Shot them for years last year they were absolute junk nitro will never be fired from another in my house again totally unacceptable performance from a shell costing that much. Stocked up on longbeards now for more than half the price wont ever look back. Before I ever shoot nitros again I will buy reloading components and load my own.

I had the same thing happen when I bought some new ones last year and noticed the different wads and lower numbers. Luckily I found a guy on this forum who had 7 boxes of older stuff for sale. Some boxes were the same batch number as my known good ones and I shot a test shot from the other batch numbers and they were all good. I am set for years to come.

I have to agree.
I stocked up on Hevi-13 3-2-7, and have enough shells to last me for almost 2 decades of hunting.
I just wish they would leave that wad alone.I still get roughly 200 pellets in the 10" circle at 40 with my Hevi, but this is considered low for that shell. However, that being said, 200 is still a good number, and my shells are all paid for, so that is what I will run in my rig.
Those longbeards are one special shell though. Homerun from Winchester!
