Title: Swannanoa. Buncombe County, North Carolina.
Post by: deerbasshunter3 on March 02, 2015, 07:12:54 PM
Does anybody in North Carolina know of any public hunting land in Buncombe County, particularly in or near Swannanoa? My buddy and I are looking to hunt the weekend of May 9.

Why so late in the season?

My buddy lives in NC and it is the only time he and I can get together to hunt.

I'm from Raleigh and hunt the eastern part of the state but have been to Swannanoah for a wedding.  I think that Pisgah National Forest might be the closest public area. There's also Nantahala National Forest but Pisgah isn't too far Asheville.

FYI, May 9 is the last day of the NC season this year.

The Pisgah NF will not be too far from you in just about any direction you want to go. Plenty of big steep country to roam.

I have seen gobblers strutting along I-40 in the spring just east of there on the Black Mtn. grade.

Look at Sandy Mush GL.
About 30 min. NW of Swannanoa.
