Title: Folding tailfan holder for DSD
Post by: Cooter on March 22, 2011, 03:00:42 PM

For you hunters that are looking for good folding tailfan holder for your DSD strutter I would go with the Edge Expedite DIY tailfan holder. It has alot of advantages over other holders.

The slot in the middle slips over the bolt on the DSD fitting very snug.

No need to take the nut and washer completely off just loosen and slide off. No losing nut and washer in the leaves.

20mp winds today and no problems

Also with this holder there is no drying or scraping. Just cut feathers to lenght and glue in.

I hope this will help you out.

Do you think I left the feathers to long? You can see where the secondary feathers use to lay.

I have a Primos fan holder and it works well.  Why would you glue the feathers in?  Then you can't change them out if you shoot them off.  I also glued 1 one of secondary feathers to the primary feathers.  I also cut the outside feathers to make the center 4 stand up like a jake.

That is a great looking holder though.  What is the cost?

You can heat the glue back up and replace the feathers.

Some guys were having problems with the primos folding up if the wind picks up? I don't know just what I have read.

I think it was $7-8 on ebay if you go to Edge expedite they want $20.

Folds up a lot nicer than the Primos.  Will the feathers not stay if not glued?  Thinking of changing for my Jake Mobile

I haven't used mine in the wind to know, thanks for the info, will definitely help.

I don't think they will stay with out being hot glued.

And I don't have to justify to anyone what I spend my money on but thanks.

I haven't had any problems at all with my Primos fan holder in high winds. I've got BMobile and hunted in winds so strong it blew him over and I had to end up using 3 decoy stakes and some sticks to hold him up. No problems with the fan though.

Does the Bmobile have a bolt on system like the DSD?

Yes. It has a bolt that fits through and you then thread on the washer and wing nut.  The bolt is not permanently attached.  On my jake, though I can use another section and lay the tail down flat and straight out.  I can fold up the outer 2 sections to make it look a little more like the DSD jake.  I'll try to find a pic.  If one is not up then I'll take one in the next day or 2.

Wow!
Here is a simple tip for the B-Moble type of fan holders. I got very nervous about dropping the wing-nut off the end of the bolt. So my simple solution was to put some silicone on the end of the bolt to hold the wingnut on it. It looks like the DSD Strutting Tom has the same type of mounting setup.
No lost bolts in the bottom of the pocket- No dropped wingnuts ect  ;)

Nice Site here. Lots of great info

Steve

I think where the problem occurs with the primos fan holder and the DSD strutter is......That if you bolt it on in the bottom of the holder the tail sits too high. So they are putting the bolt in between the feathers above the fan holder. This is how the DSD instruction show to install a fan that is dried with the flesh on.

With the bolt there it allows the primos holder to fold.
