Title: Ocellated Turkey Hunting
Post by: VanHelden Game Calls on February 25, 2015, 11:27:57 AM
Alright guys, I hope I can get a little help from those that have hunted these cool turkeys.

In middle March 2016 a group of friends are making another trip to Mexico, this time to the gulf side and this has me thinking :)
While my friends do not hunt and are able to waste the entire day sitting by a swim up bar I need to do something, and was thinking what a better time to take a couple days to try an Ocellated turkey hunt.

Now the problems, just doing some research I have had trouble finding when the seasons start.  I see outfitters starting in April :(

Can someone point me to good resources on the subject of hunting regulations, season dates, good outfitters willing to do a short hunt?

At this point I am trying to see if I am going to be able to check off a bucket list item or if I will be forced to sit in my swim trunks and drink :happy0167:

Yukkutz hunting out of Campeche is my recommendation.  They have lots of birds but if your looking for a discounted hunt for the Ocellated I don't think you will find it as most all of the outfitters know what they have.  They start bow hunts in as early as February and go into April with their regular season.
There are a lot of Mayan ruins in the area that are definitely worth the visit as well.  If you want to give me a call and talk more about what to expect just shoot me a pm for my number.

here you go.  I'm debating on donating this bird to the NWTF Museum because of uniqueness of it's 4++ spurs if they would even want it.
