Over the summer i joined a lease in Ohio in Meigs County. I'm from NC and haven't been to the lease yet but my good friend from NC deer hunted the lease. Does anyone on the forum hunt this county or area of the state? From what i see from DNR's harvest statistics and the relative size of the county that it seems pretty promising.
Meigs County is a great place to hunt. There's a good number of birds down there and nice sized bucks, too. The biologists say that we have had a few good years of hatchings, so this should be a good spring for most of the state. You'll be happy there. Good luck!
I hunt Morgan, Perry, Athens county. Mostly public land. Meigs isn't too far from me, never hunted there myself but from what I've seen its similar.
A lot of Jakes in my area last year, that means hard gobbling 2 year olds this year.
As was said, should be a good season.
Thanks for the encouraging words! I'm really looking forward to hunting some new terrain. I've only hunted in GA and NC thus far. We've got a 4 day hunt scheduled for the last week of April. Should be a good time with two of my best friends.
I live right across the river in West Virginia. From personal accounts of driving Rt 33 to Columbus and guys I know that deer hunt there, I can definitely say there are plenty of birds there.
I own a farm in vinton right next to meigs...there r birds there
I've hunted there a few times with a friend who lives there. The area we hunted had a good population of cooperative birds. Should be a good hunt,
I too used to hunt in that area. Plenty of birds and the land lays pretty nice. I'm a couple counties upriver now. Our hills make me miss that country. You'll have fun.
Hopefully I'll be posting some pics of some OH longbeards!
