I have Firestone Destination A/Ts on my truck. I like the tires, but I sometimes feel that they wear weird. I had BFG A/Ts on the truck before the Destinations. I keep hearing good things about Coopers A/Ts.
What's y'all's input?
Cooper makes a very good tire. My uncle has a set on his F150 that have lasted an incredible amount of time. I personally have the BFG K/O on mine. A little more aggressive. I will probably do a M/T next time...
I have used 2 sets of the Cooper ATR that was replaced with the AT3 model on a 1500 Suburban and they are a good tire. On my Silverado I put the Toyo AT3 on because they look a little more aggressive (sidewall) than the Coopers. Traction-wise they are about the same.
When it is time to get another set i am going with the Toyos again, just in a different size. I have 285/65 -18 now and I want to go to a 275/75-18... a little taller, a little narrower, and 5 lbs lighter per tire to get better mpg.
Check the prices on treaddepot.com. I got a better price there, then had them mounted/balanced at a local shop.
I have Goodyear MTR kevlars on my truck , it's the second set , the first I got 50,000 miles on them
It's more of a dedicated off road tire than anything else they have to offer - there is a noticeable tire hum , but besides that the off road traction is incredible
I have Cooper AT/3's on my truck now, they're pretty good tires. I bought them because of the great reviews. In the past though I've had Nitto Terra Grapplers and Goodyear Dura Tracs. Both were good tires but I liked the Nittos better
Look at General Grabber AT2 if you want a really tough tire, good ride, low noise, reasonable price.
I've had the BF Goodrich KO and they performed well but the last set didn't wear as well as the first. I've had Hankooks that I liked also. I'm currently running Cooper AT3s that performed well in slick mud last turkey season and have been performing well in snow. They had good reports and I got a better deal on them than I could any other AT
In my opinion you have the best all terrain tire already. Over the years I have ran Firestone Destination A/T's on 3 different trucks and have been very satisfied with them. The ride is smooth and quiet and treadlife has exceeded 50,000 miles if properly rotated and the truck's alignment is kept in check. I would wager that your uneven wear is not being caused by the tire itself. Check out the reviews in Tire Rack. The Destination A/T's are close to the top.
Mastercraft cursor ct is what I run on my truck. I like them a lot. It's not quite a mud tire but a little more than your standard all terrain.

+1...great all around tire.

Several of my buddies and myself are running Toyo Open Country ATs and MTs and we are all really happy with them.
Bf Goodrich is a time proven all terrain. Also check out the Mickey Thompson baja atz. I'm running the my on my truck and love them.
I was happy running Nitto Terra Grapplers until the price jumped up to match the BFG A/T KOs. Now, I'm back to the BFGs.
I work in the tire wholesale industry, so I am familiar with most brands out there.
As mentioned the Cooper A/T3 is one of the best. The ATR, which it replaced, was a great mileage tire on for highway use but lacked durability on gravel. The silica based compound on the A/T3 helped with that issue as well as providing great wet traction. It has received several accolades for quality, such as a previous award of #1 all-terrain by Consumer Reports. To top it off it's made in the USA. There is also a consumer rebate slated for March 1 - April 15, which will pay you around $75 for buying a set of 4.
Cooper builds Mastercraft, and there is a similar tire called the Courser AXT. Similar tread (looks close to a Hankook RF-10). If price is a consideration this is a little cheaper. Consumer rebate slated for April for set of 4.
The Toyo AT II is also a great quality tire, built with a lot of technology. Typically very few balance issues with the Toyo and usually good mileage.
The Hankook RF-10 and BFGs are also a durable tire that works well on and off road.
If you decide on a little more aggressive all-terrain / mud tire there are several great options....
Kelly TSR, Cooper S/T Maxx, Toyo MT, or the Mastercraft MXT.
Whatever you choose (no matter what brand), the key is rotating as required. One late rotation or mechanical issues, such as shocks, bearings, alignment issues etc. your tires will dish out or experience uneven wear.
The new bf good wrench KO2 looks very sweet

I've ran BF AT K/O's, Mickey Thompson ATZ's, Cooper STT's, and currently have BF Rugged Terrain TA's. Of those, my favorite was the BF AT K/O's. A few +'s were good fuel mileage, good tread life, good grip, and low road noise. The only - is they aren't cheap but after owning the others I believe they're worth the cost.

Over 70,000 miles and still going very strong. Best there is IMO.
Michelins are the worst AT on the market. 70k your truck must be a pavement princess. I am lucky to get 30k out of a set. Cooper AT3 are the best on the market at this time.
I got 20,000 miles out of my Cooper At3's. Just 20K. They cupped and wore horribly.
I've had pretty good luck with Firestone Discovery.
I drive a Toyota Tacoma and religiously rotate and check my tires.
This may be the first thing I've seen that didn't like Michelen A/T tires.
I love my Cooper AT3's!

I had a set of Michelin LTX M/S2 on my truck, 18", never again. They have a strange reinforcing bar in the outer edge that becomes visible at half the tread wear, but makes the outer tread look bald. I think 18" is too big and needs side wall support so that was Michelin answer. Too bad, its a great tire on the smaller wheels and that tire doesn't have that bar. 20K miles and I needed to change them out even though the wear bars were still deep in the center treads. Slid on the wet roads.
I have 5k miles on a set of Cooper Discover RTX available only through National Tire. Really good tread, quiet, and seems to be wearing well though a little early to tell. Got them on a buy 3 get one free plus a rebate. Good price for 18" tires. Will put another set on for that price when these wear out.
I have had the destinations , bfg ats and the cooper at 3s . The bfgs are the most expensive but I liked them the best for my driving . I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the other 2 but my next set will be the bfgs .

Best maybe not, best value pretty likely...I have had great luck with Bridgestone as well, 4 different types of Duelers so far and all have been great!

You didn't mention if you rotate your tires regularly or make sure your alignment is good????
I had a pair of wintermark m/s tires on the back of old ford courier, they lasted 7yrs, it surprised me many times, but that truck would go almost anywhere with good tires!

What do you mean "wear weird"?
odds are any unevenness probably won't be a tire issue, more than likely it is mechanical. The composition of the tire will make some last longer than others, but all good tires should wear evenly (across the tread)
Nitto Terra grappler. 10ply
Hankook dynapro AT has done pretty good for me. Pull real good for an AT and fairly quite. Chuck
Nitto Terra Grappler G2
That Tacoma would look very good in some Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs with some MB Razor wheels:-)

Did you run the plan terra grapplers before the G2 ?
I've also had luck with with Terra Grapplers on my diesel...Going to need some tires for the tacoma sometime.
I rotate the tires every time I get an oil change (every 3000 miles). Alignment is good too.

No. I ran Cooper AT3's and Hankook Dynapros. The Hankooks were great tires and were still on my last truck when I traded it. The Coopers wore uneven and were awful in the mud. The guy that runs a local tire business talked me into the Terra Grappler G2's. He said he hasn't had any complaints at all out of that tire. He speaks highly of the Toyo Open Country tires as well.
I like Cooper Discoverers
Hankook Dynapro's have been the best I've tried on my Tacoma.

I agree. 9 out of 10 times, uneven or irregular is due poor rotation schedule or some mechanical issue. There are always some tires (all brands) that wear great on certain vehicles and not so great on others. We had an SUV tire in the Cooper that was always a soft, quiet ride, but you could guarantee that on certain vehicles they wouldn't get 25,000 to 30,000 miles. Though it took a little too long for them to respond in my opinion, they fortunately are phasing it out and have a replacement about to hit the market.
My most recent set of tires is from Mastercraft and so far they seem to be performing better than comparable tires I have tried in the past. I hunt a lot in country that will tear tires to shreds,...lots of sharp, lava rock and thorn-covered bushes,...and the Mastercraft's are holding up surprisingly well,...knock on wood....
I have Hankook Dynapro ATMs on my F150 now and there are wearing great. I would highly recommend them to anyone.
Toyo Open Country ATII Extreme. Run em on a a 9,000 lb Excursion and they are quiet, pretty good bite in mud, tough as nails on off-road gravel and last as good as any. I've worn out several sets of Coopers, Hancooks, BF Goodrich and Firestone all terrain tires from 285-17's to 35x12.50-20's. Toyo is my fave.
For at's I love my bfg's :anim_25:
I like Kenda Klever M/T. You can get a set of 4 in 10 ply 285-75/r16, 285-70/r17, 265's, for under $550 where I live... They only last about 25-35k miles
