Title: Best lead pattern before Longbeard
Post by: ep427 on February 19, 2015, 11:10:30 AM
I had never had a very good pattern before I tried Longbeard. But I had never tried real hard either. I am Thinking of trying to get back to regular lead because of the price of Longbeard going up. Would really like to see pics of good patterns if you can. I am shooting a Tristar viper with Undertaker choke if anyone has a recommendation please tell.

Well, my old favorite WAS the Fed 3-2-7.5s, but they are no longer made and use #7.5 shot, so we can't really do an apples-to-apples comparison anyway.  I guess the second best has been Win Double X 3-2-6s.  I don't have any pattern pics, though.

Federal Grand Slam , triple plus wad column. 4 and 5 shot 3.5" in 835's 935's and Super X2's and Extrema's
130-140's in the 10".  Stardots of old and gobblin thunder tubes.

Have not seen a price increase??

I agree with the old federal 3/2/7.5 that was my pick but also used federal 3/2/6 with great results

Interested as well. Never counted numbers until this year. Found this site and found my numbers aren't as high as several on here. Shooting 3" from #4, #5 and #6 getting 70-100 in 10". Standard shot/wad loads.

Deep clean your barrel and see your numbers jump substantially.
