When selecting wood for pot calls for hunting purposes (nothing fancy)what wood works the best for slate, glass, crystal etc. for the best sounds.
Red Cedar is a good one. It's what I started out with. That and Walnut, and maple. All readily available at saw mills. Oak was another one.
There's been a ton of turkeys killed with pot calls made with walnut and cherry pots - both woods are readily available and relatively inexpensive. I've also had really good results with osage pots as well.
All good choices..Walnut, Cherry, Maple can't beat those as stated above.
