Was wondering how many shells y'all carry when you head out. I have 3 HTL's in my vest and one cheap lead 6. When I carry my 20 I usually grab a box of 5 hevi 7's and put in my pocket.
I put 2 shells in my gun and carry 3 extra in my vest of Hevi 6s when using the 835. When carrying the 20 I load 3 shells in the gun and carry two in my vest.
I usually start with three and get no lower than two.

Exactly. I put 3 shells in the gun and go hunting.
2
3 in the gun, and 2 back-ups in the vest.
I also carry 2 #4 Buck in case I run into a critter that needs disposal.
Gman
I put three in the gun and go hunting. I might keep two or three extras in the vehicle.
1 in the chamber has become more common for me in past years.

I take five, only allowed to have three in the gun so that leaves two in the vest.

2 shells in my gun and one extra in my vest.
2 and 1 in the vest plus 1 #7 for snakes
I never put more than 2 in the gun anymore. If I'm only hunting in my neighborhood I usually only take 5 with me, but if I'm hunting in a real remote area I take 10 or so. I do that in case of an emergency like getting severely injured and I would have extra to signal with. Or get involved with a firefight with sasquatch, you just never know these days.
3 in the gun and one in the vest. Just a habit no science to it.
6
3 in the gun + an extra 2 or 3 in my pocket
Usually 15. I've had a few tense moments with former arrestees of mine who weren't supposed to have a gun.

Me too.
6 in the vest but put 3 in the gun after I get out of the truck
3 in the gun (law) and 4 in the vest and normally a box stays in the truck. If all goes right I'll use 2 all year but never know if an emergency happens or if a buddy needs a shell
5...2 in the gun, 3 in my vest.
3 in my gun and 3 in my vest....and restock as needed!! :z-guntootsmiley:
Dang!!! I guess I'm NUTZ!!!
3 in Gun, Box of 5 in vest
And usually a 6 or 7.5 for a varmint.
U can't ever have too much AMMO!!!
^^^ you must not walk very far then?

My 870 holds 3 in the tube mag and 1 in the chamber, so I go with 4. I figure one of these days I'm gonna miss and need an extra shot. All I've ever needed so far was one.
I used to carry extra shells early on in my career before I figured out that turkey hunting is a 1 shot, 1 kill game. :fud: :gobble:

I still have issues with that from time to time.
3 in gun. If I can't make it happen with 3 shells then it just ain't my day

Luckily for the turkeys!!! ;) You already put a hurtin' on them every year anyway!! :fud: :turkey:
I've only missed once, and there was no chance for a follow up shot. I'm sure more misses are coming though.
3 in the 870 and 3 in the vest.
I always keep two in my vest in case I misplace the 3 that are usually in the gun. It happens....
5 in the gun, 5 in the vest, 10-20 in the truck
never know what might happen
I carry one in the pipe, which is a given, 3 in the mag. That way i can load a 7 1/2 birdshot in case of a snake attack! I also carry two rounds of 00 buck for yotes! I also carry a 22 pistol cause you never know!
3 in the gun and 2 in the vest
3 in the gun and 5 in the vest. My vest has 5 loops so that's how many extras I carry.
2 in my gun(superstitious) 1 in my pocket.
1 in the chamber, 2 in the magazine. I've never shot more than once, so I don't know why I need all 3.
Maybe I should put that 3rd in my vest in case I ever forget to load the gun before I head into the field!
3 in gun, 2 in vest
3 in the gun, 5 in the vest
Seven, just because that's how I've always done it.
3 in gun 3 in vest.If the boy is with me I carry 3 of his also.
With the SBE; 1 in the chamber, 3 in the magazine, & 5 in the vest loops.
With the single shot; 1 in the chamber, 1 in my right hand vest pocket, and 5 in the vest loops.
Jim
I usually just put 3 in the gun and go hunting. There's usually more in the truck (box of 5-10). I used to fill my vest full of extra shells but after a couple miles of walking you start looking for ways to lighten up the load.
I have always carried two in my right front pants pocket with one in the Encore or three in the SBE, whichever I am carrying. I did have to reload the Encore once for the coup de grace and was glad the extras were where they were supposed to be.

MY uncle told me to take 6 3 in the gun and 3 in the vest...just in case :OGturkeyhead:
3
three in my benelli 12 five more in my vest and three 20 guage shells and two 410 shells in my vest just in case someone i'm taking hunting forgets ammo. and usually a few boxes in my truck.
3 in the gun and 3 in the vest. The rest of the box in the truck.
When I was a kid, I hunted turkey with my Dad's old double barrel. He would give me 2 shells and off I'd go. I always brought back either two live shells or one live shell and one dead turkey - usually it was two live shells though LOL
I normally carry four. Two in the gun, two in the vest.

+1; i also carry a few extras in my waist pack.
3 in my gun, 5 in my vest (2 of which are normally dove loads in case I run across snakes)
I usually put two in the gun and carry an extra one or two in my vest. I keep a box in the truck. The shells in the vest cover me if I forget to load my gun, the ones in the truck are extra insurance.
I need to carry a varmint/snake round or two in my vest. That's a good idea. It would not be something I would use often but it may save me an expensive round some day.
Usually 5. Only reason is there are 5 shell loops in my vest. Three go in the gun, two in the vest.
Three
One for a coyote
One for a turkey
One for a rattlesnake
Six, three in the gun and 3 in the vest. Creature of habit. Al Baker
Made a mistake last spring. Had my 3 in the gun that I have done for years. Neglected to think about I usually shoot a 20 ga but had the 12 gauge with me. I had a case of the misses last year for some reason and ended up wounding a bird. I ended up having to run it down and finish it with a stick. Bet I check the vest next time.
Depends on where I am...
7-10 shells usually, coyotes need love too...

I average 6 (3 in gun 3 in vest) but it varies.
For you guys that pack specific shells for yotes or snakes, have you ever had concern with trying to explain say #4 buck to the GW in a state that says max size for turkey is #X ? I think it would be illegal in some states to have it in my vest no matter what I said it was for.
Three in the gun, and I used to carry 3 extra, but now generally opt for just one extra round. Probably will never need the extra, but have, on a couple of memorable occasions in my hunting career, popped off 3 rounds at one turkey without bringing him to bag. And, of course, we all know what would happen on the way back to the truck if one were to expend all the shells you have on your person and fail to bag a gobbler. :)
