I'm thinking about picking up a semi-auto Mossberg 930 12 ga. I will use it for deer and turkey.
The gun comes with two barrels, a rifled slug barrel and a "field" barrel.
Does anyone have any experience with this gun, especially hunting? Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I've been shooting one for years now and have nothing but good things to say about it. Here's an article that I wrote almost 4 years ago about the 930 http://allaboutshooting.com/article_info.php?articles_id=477
Since that article was written I've shot hundreds and hundreds of 3" full power turkey loads, as well as many other 12 gauge shells through that gun. I've carried it all over the eastern part of the U.S. in competition and it has never failed to function.
I intentionally did not clean the gas system or the fire control unit for months and months and it just kept on going. After the World Championship last October, in which it was repeatedly soaked from the terrible rains that we had during that competition, I tore it down and cleaned everything. The gas system was dirty and the fire control had an accumulation of "gunk" from all the cleaning that I'd done, muzzle to breech but still functioning properly.
It's worked in windy cold weather, hot wet weather and everything in between. It also patterns like few other guns I've shot.
I shoot a wide variety of shotguns and the 930 functions and patterns as well as or better than most.
I would recommend it most highly.

Thanks Clark for the excellent review. My mind is set on a 930 now, but I am torn between which finish to get. I don't want camouflage, so that leaves walnut or synthetic black.......tough decision. How do you feel about your synthetic black stock? Did you consider the walnut? I will probably end up going to a shop and comparing the two before I purchase one. Thanks.

You're welcome. For "working guns" I almost always get synthetic/black stocks. I don't have to worry about damage from water or solvents that way and I also like the appearance.

Well, I just pulled the trigger and ordered a 930 combo with a Walnut stock.............
