Title: Re-introduction thread - add your picture too.
Post by: Odessa on February 08, 2011, 10:03:15 PM
Being we got trashed before we completed all the introductions I think we should start another thread.  List something about yourself and your hunting hobby. If you have a picture of yourself hunting turkey (or anything) post it too.

2011 will be my 9th year hunting turkeys and I will be going for number 20 this Spring, so hoping to make it a good one to enter for the Head Hunters team score. First year in the OG contest for me.  We have some real gobblezilla size Easterns here in Wisconsin, but only five day long seasons. Hunting hours are from one-half hour before sunrise to sunset Wed. to Sunday.  I will be hunting May 4th thru the 8th which is our 4th season of 6 total. If you do the sunrise/sunset math, that yields a potential for about 90 hours of hunting/field time in five days. The long days can be very grueling, so it really pays to do a lot of advance scouting so you can get er done quick.  Didn't happen the way I would have liked last year, but I stuck to it and outwitted the little guy pictured below at 6:23 PM on the last day.  Lucky the farmer who lives behind me let me hunt his place as a back-up to the other 5 farms I typically hunt. The picture is taken on the backside of my property.
Not any where near my biggest bird ever or even close to the BAD A$$ 10 HEN SLOB who eluded death on the three previous mornings, but he did score a 65.875.

Good Luck to all this year,

Lance

Hey Team,

My name is Tony and I live in S.D. This season will be my 4th year hunting turkeys and 3rd OG contest. I got skunked last year but this year is looking promising with the possibility of hunting 2 counties w/ the chances of tagging 2 gobblers total. Our season is April 9 - May 22. We will be hunting all private land with creek bottoms. I am glad to be on this team and it looks like we have a pretty strong showing this year. I hunt most of the small game & a few big game creatures in S.D.

Hey guys. My name is Nate.  I live in Tioga County, PA.  Grew up in Tioga County, NY.  Luckily NY sells lifetime licenses so I bought one before I moved.  Like many I grew up tagging along with my dad deer hunting and when I got old enough started small game hunting.  I've been turkey hunting for 15 years.  My dad didn't hunt them much before I started going with him so we have learned together which is nice.  My dad is still waiting to get that Boss Gobbler and I think that is going to be one of my goals for this year.  Anyway being lucky enough to hunt in 2 states I will have 4 tags.  Coupled with a long season hopefully I will be able to add a respectable bird to our tally. Here are some pictures of a few deer and turkey I was lucky enough to get last year. Overall it was the best hunting year I have ever had.  Hopefully I will have another one like it.

PA Turkey, First day around 9:30 only had 8.5 inch beard and 3/4 spurs but a trophy non the less.

NY 5pt. Second day of bow season.  Probably should have let him grow another year or so but he came right in to the grunt call, and he tasted good.

PA 8pt. October 30th Bow.  Chased a doe right under my tree.

NY 9pt.  First day of gun in NY.  Thought he was wider than he was.  Still very happy with him. Didn't pull the jaw for aging but his teeth were pretty worn down.  Looked like he got hit by a car and one hind quarter was pretty beat up.

Gentlemen, My name is Bruce, I'm 55, been a hunter since I was a lad (8 or 9 nine years old), started out with Dad and my Uncle Fred as my teachers (I still hunt waterfowl or dove with them, but its rare that they go anymore).  I have hunted waterfowl, deer, elk, black bear, and small game and upland game for many years but turkey is pretty new to me. I started turkey hunting the year after I retired from the ARNG (Spring 2006), but stayed unbloodied until Spring 2009 when I shot my first turkey (picture is in another thread).  I have gotten much more educated and enthralled with wild turkeys in the last two seasons and have taught myself to use a slate, glass, & paddle calls and now I am trying to master the mouth diaphragm calls. I have called Tom's to me on several occasions, but bobbled the "drop the call, pick up the gun" part of closing the deal! I shot a bearded hen last year (think I got taken to task about that on this website) - my occasional hunting partner on that hunt is the senior wildlife enforcement officer ("game warden") for this area and he told me that it was a rare trophy (and legal here too), in fact he mounted it so he could show his students in the NC Safe Hunters course what one looks like - its the only legal hen you can possess in NC.  Only here did I find out that many turkey hunters don't want you shooting a bearded hen - so I won't shoot another.  I am not ashamed of it, just was unaware of the taboo (we are overrun with hens in our area now, so it didn't hurt the breeding population). Here are a few shots of various game I have shot over the past few years.

Hey Street, I would say check with Gobblestopper or Odessa. I think we still have a few guys that havent came back after the crash/repair or check with Admin staff and see if they can put you in. They should know if the other member have re-registered or not. Glad to have you, I think we have a fine team of great hunters. I think we'll do well. Good Luck, Brad

What's happening?  My name is Tim and I live just east of Nashville, TN in Wilson county.  I have a degree in Wildlife Biology, but have owned an insurance agency in Nashville for 13 years...GO FIGURE.  I am 38 and have been hunting as long as I can remember.  Now, turkey is the only thing I chase.  Below is a bird I had the privilege to kill with my 10 year old daughter sitting right beside me.  Oh, by the way, it was her FIRST hunting trip with dad.  Needless to say it is a memory that I will never forget.  Good luck this season!

Whats up fellas?  I'm Dave and I'm 30 years old and I live in SC with my wife.  I have access to more turkey hunting property this year than ever before...close to 5000 acres.  I'm very much looking forward to this season.  Unfortunately I will be having shoulder surgery on Tuesday so thats gonna have me out of commission for a while.  The sooner I get it fixed, the sooner I get better.  Our season opens April 1st so hopefully I'll be okay by then.

Dave, hope all goes well with your surgery on Tuesday and you heal quickly and get back out in the hunting fields.  My oldest daugther was a McNair Fellow in the Honors College at USC and graduated in the Class of 2007 - we have a high opinion of SC and South Carolinians.

Yes, Adrian has been there. He's been a prostaff of QB for a good 15 plus years I think. Realtree prostaff for past number of years as well so he gets around to a lot of the shows all over North America.
