Title: Nitro?
Post by: RAY on January 25, 2015, 09:01:24 PM
I'm sighted in with Winchester Supreme (black shell)3.5 copperplated #5 out of my Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag. I was thinking about switching to Remington Nitro the same shot size etc.anyone have luck with them out of the factory ultimate-full choke?

R nitro is the worst shell I've tried to shoot. If your gonna switch try the longbeards IMHO.

They patterned the best out of my mossberg 835 w/ ulti full choke the 3.5" 5 shot, I've killed a lot of birds with them in the past, but there are better shells now like the longbeards I can push 200 in the ten at forty with my 835 and factory ulti full choke and longbeard 6 shot!! Hope this helps

I was recently given a box of Rem nitro turkey mags, a guy I know bought the wrong kind and the store will not take them back. They're #4 3.5 2oz. So I like to tinker with stuff, and thought hey, I've never cut open a turkey load! Well I can see way they don't pattern that great, there was only 6gr. of buffer in there, not enough protect the shot, and there was some kind of plastic pellets on top that, it must be just spacer. And not even 2oz of shot!  I've tried them in different shotguns with several chokes but never got a good pattern past 30yds. That being said I did pattern some #6 nitro mags in a winchester 120 and had 116 hits in a 10" @40yds.  The nitro turkey mags are just high steppin' squirrel loads!

Before I knew what a 10" circle was or it's importance  :z-dizzy: I killed this bird with a 20 ga  3" #5 Remington Nitro.  He went down like I kicked his legs from under him. They will kill but one needs to know their limits.   Luckily he landed about 10-12 steps from me when he came off the roost to investigate those sweet tree yelps then fly down he had heard.   ;D

I think the only reason anybody buys those is they think they are Nitro Ammo Co. Shells and don't know any better. They are pathetic shells though

I use them only in thick stuff where the shot will not be over 20 yards Because they are cheap.  I shoot a Remington 887 with an Indian Creek .665 choke and the Remington wingmaster HD 3.5" #4 shells.  I've laid a pile of em down at 50 yards and 2 at over 60.
