Title: Help picking a New Vest
Post by: K9Doc on January 24, 2015, 12:55:06 AM
I'm looking for a new vest. I hunt hard!!!  I abuse my vest and clothes.
I crawl and sneak a lot so my new vest must be tough and light.
I need to be able carry a gobbler without it breaking too.
I'm retiring my Bob Dixon. Figured out its worth a little something.

1.  Tenzing TV14
2. Under Armour Fast Trax
3.  Beard Buster Slingshot
4.  Vest a Blind

What would you choose and Why?

It's not on your list - Ol Tom Dura lite.
Light weight and holds everything I need.

Well, it sure won't be the UA or the Tenzing. I refuse to pay that kind of money for a name brand. Looking thru all the catalogs I received this week, I'm not sure....good question.

Mossy Oak Super Elite III  Best vest I have ever used. Plenty of call pockets and I've carried birds in the game pouch many times for a long distance and the load is nicely distributed.

Mossy Oak Super Elite III. it is a little hot, but does everything I need it to do very well. Going on 5 years, and has worn like iron.

SEIII gets my vote also.

I bought the ol'tom I beam last year. It's alright. I think it's a upgrade from my old super elite but I'll probably try the Tactical tater next time. UA stuff is waayyy overpriced for the quality. Not sure about the others.

I'll give a nod to the Tactical Tatr myself. Also before you buy, look into the Hands Free vest from Knight's Hunting products. Plenty of storage and some great features new to vests.

I seen this vest at a local sporting goods store the other day. Looked very interesting.

I'm sure liking my Tactical Tater II. Picked it up on sale at Cabela's a little while back.

Anyone own the Knight's products vest ?
Seat and back rest look to be padded poorly?

I can't say I'd choose anything on your list, all of them seen overpriced and a little hokey to me.

I will second the Super Elite III (hard to find, Ol Tom Cotton Full vest is a virtual clone) and the Cabelas Tat'R vests. I much prefer the Tat'R 2 to the Tat'R 3, I just think it is much better constructed.

Good luck finding a SE3, wanted to get the FIL a new one for 12/25. Could not find one anywhere. Ended up getting him a Primos, and what a POS it is...

My Super Elite III is way better then my Primos vest. The zipper broke on the Primos before I even got it out into the field. With that said, I want to try the Cabelas Tactical Tater II. Might get one just for kicks before the season...

How about making you're own, I'm not a vest wearing type guy, and being new to gobbler hunting I've been thinking about making my own with pockets were I'd like them to be, something I want, not what somebody else thinks I need!

Is the super elite 3 a vest built into a shirt? Never seen one

I'm still wearing an ancient vest that I've almost wore down to nothing.  I believe it's the original Super Elite.  I have tried on the SE 3 but don't care for the sizing range they use (something like S/M and L/ XL).  Last time I tried them on, one was too small and the other too large.

I have considered the Tactical Tat'rs but been too tight to buy one (it's my #1 choice).   I don't care for the Old Tom vests, at least none that I've tried.  The Quaker Boy Vestablind is goofy ( I can't believe they are still making them).  I've not looked at the Under Armor but the brand in general turns me off.

I'd say the SE 3 or one of the Tactical Tat'rs depending on budget and how they fit.

yep, same exact problem. I actually bought both sizes! End up wearing the l/xl and giving the kids the s/m to wear!
