Title: recommendations on 20 gauge turkey chokes
Post by: stringtalker on January 18, 2015, 02:08:57 PM
Which 20 gauge turkeys chokes have you all used in the past with good patterns. I bought a new turkey gun with a 22" barrel. I have used the truglo ssx and primos tightwad with good results. Anybody use any others, does the swarm choke hold good patterns?

It would help if we knew what type of gun you bought

If it's a Remmy, there are a few good ones it the classifieds. I too use a SSX.

My gun is a CVA scout 20 gauge single shot, 22" barrel, screw in chokes, it uses the winchester/mossberg chokes

I have a 870 youth 21" barrel
.565 Tru-glo  GSX
.570 Tightwad
.570 Hastings
.575 Carlson
out of these chokes the tightwad is good, the hastings is a little better, but the Carlson is the best performer

stringtalker, I have the same gun.  I bought it for my grandsons.  Liked the 20 so much I bought me an SX3. ;D
In that CVA, the factory choke gives me 140 or so in the 10" circle at 35 yards using Federal HW 7's.  I didn't shoot 40 yards because I didn't want the kids to shoot quite that far.

But if you are looking for a tighter load or a 40 yard pattern, I think Sumtoy has that load figured out in 20 gauge.
