Hello guys I got a bunch of the old Winchester 3.5 inch #5 high velocity shells. I was wondering what choke has worked well in the Remington 870 Super Mag. THANKS!
My buddy has an 870 Super Mag with a 23" barrel. I gave him a Comp-N-Choke .655 I believe it was & it threw some really wicked patterns with that shell. I'm sure there are others that will work well also.
I really like the patterns my 870 with a 26 inch barrel gives with a Ventilator and the HV 3.5 2 oz loads. Good hunting pattern at 20 yards and about 120 at 40. That was on a cold day this winter, about 5 degrees.
For what it's worth I tried the longbeards today, and the 20 yard pattern was similar but put up 150 at 40 yards.
Never shot these shells out of my 870 Super mag but I would be willing to bet that the Ventilator choke might work well. Its not very expensive either and would be great to start with IMO....
I shot #6 in the same gun/shell combo for years and the Ballistic Specialties .655 was my pick.

*had to have the barrel professionally polished to get it to turn good patterns.
*35.00 polish and a 12.00 Ventilator choke.
:TrainWreck1: I run a kicks 655 in my 24 in barrel super mag and brother .. Double x number 5 or 6 in 3 or 3 1/2 will rip roar one down at 50 yds no problem .. I quit buying other shells when I got that choke. Good luck to you
