Title: Which owl hooter?
Post by: Bigeclipse on January 15, 2015, 08:35:37 AM
Looking to buy a good sounding owl hooter.  I bought one two years ago at walmart and it just does not sound good.  I forget what type it is but I can definitely make a better sound using my own voice than this call and yes I have practice lots with it and it simply does not sound good.  Im asking you guys for a tried and true good sounding owl hooter.  Thanks all!

Best one I have ever used is by James Harrison. If you can find an original Doug Camp, and afford it, that is another great call.

I sound like a chicken trying to hoot - hahah so I got a Harrison yeRs ago and have been really been pleased with it!! It's very realistic. There are other makers that make great ones also and take great pride in what they do. I am sure with the hunters and makers here you will get plenty if great advice
Good luck and happy hunting

I'd have to say James Harrison also.

I typed james Harrison Hoot into google and it brings me to hook's custom calls.  here they have several versions of the hoot n stick...cheapest being synthetic at 22$ and more expensive at 36$ out of walnut. Does it matter what it is made of? Which model do you all suggest?

Your in the right spot!   I have the synthetic now and don't think either one makes a difference personally.  Also look up Harrison Hoot N' Stick on YouTube and hear the man behind the call use it...he's awesome!

I don't mind paying for quality but if cheaper works just as good I will go for it everytime!

personally, I like the wooden ones. May be worth a little more when you've passed on. May mean a little more to your kids when they see the stains from being used than a plastic one. If you contact him, you get a hand turned one. I like the cocobolo ones.

James goes by owlface on here.

James is awesome. I have 2 that are hand made by him. I will be using one in the GNCC owl comp. If you are just looking for a good deal either of the Hooks hooters would work great.
