I'm looking at buying a youth model 20 gauge for my son to shoot a bird. Can't decide between the mossberg 500 and the Remington 870. I will be buying one with the 22in youth barrel...Help
I'd buy the 870, slightly higher quality.

You can't go wrong with either. When you look at the current crop of Mossberg shotguns you'll be very pleased with the quality and performance. I got one of those for my 2 grandsons to use a while back and hope to take them to the turkey woods soon.
Thanks,
Clark
I have always been a big Remington fan, but be sure to take a look at the Mossberg 510. It is specifically designed for the youth/small frame shooter and very affordable.
I like the 870 but the 500 is lighter. The 500 is also easier tofund in stores here
Howbeit was a few years back I bought both for my boy. I kept the 870.
May not be a big deal but the 500 comes drilled and tapped. I would highly recommend a red dot sight for a youth.

I forgot about the Remmy not being drilled and tapped. If your considering a dot or scope then I'd lean to the Mossy.
Both are fine and work well. The Remington is little better. The Remington can have trigger work easy and cheap. The Remington is also all steel. I like the choke in the Remington better also. It is little thicker on the end.
Sold on the remmy. Which I was at heart already. Thanks guys
