Title: Longbeards
Post by: cjordan on December 20, 2014, 05:56:12 PM
I was in a store today and seen some 3.5" 4s, 5s, and 6s. I have some of these left over from last year but figured I would pick up a couple more boxes just to have on hand while the getting was good. Now I can't remember what I paid last year for LBs and this store normally runs a little high, but the sticker price was $26.00 so I figure $28.00 a box after taxes. Does this not seem a little high or is that about right?

I think that's about the market price for the 3.5" shells. As far as I know, there have been no price increases on them and many stores had carry over from last year as well.

Thanks,
Clark

You're right Mr.Clark. After sitting here thinking about it last night and this morning, I can remember saying to my self last year there wasn't much difference between the price of longbeards and hevi 13... But you do get double the amount of LBs. Also I bought more 3" LBs than 3.5", best I can remember is the 3" was about $16.00-$18.00 per box.

And if your smart, dont buy the longbeards where there is 10 shells per box i think. Go buy the winchester rooster xr where there is 15 per box, same shell i do believe

Rooster XR has a smaller payload than Longbeard XR.  Only 1.5 oz in the 3in. load.

Yep, 1.5oz's of shot is plenty. My brother has a 20 gauge that will flat out shoot the federals with 1.5oz's. 209 in a 10 inch circle at 35 yards

My guess is that the 20  gauge Federals are 1.5 oz. of #7 HW.
These are lead #6s but I do agree that 1.5 oz. of shot is plenty for my needs.
I just got in some 2 3/4" 12 ga Rooster XR shells and I want to see how they do for an older O/U in full choke.

My brothers 20 gauge will also put 109 in a 10 inch circle at 35 yards with federal turkey thugs #5 lead shot too

I just ordered several boxes for me and some of my friends...3 inch and 3 1/2 inch.  The Longbeards done great for me last yr...best shooting shell I've used and the price is kinda nice also!

God bless

I think 18-22 was the price , BPRO and cabelas , walmart?

Have to agree on the rooster , they way the longbeards throw patterns that lighter shot charge should be enough. have to like a 2 3/4" shell for the guns that only take them especially too.

Soon as a good day comes they are going to hit the pattern board.
Picked up a old express 21" barrel 870 12 gauge the other day to test too, i had bought one when they first come out, it was a slayer and carried great. Just one of many i wished i had back. :morning:

Thanks guys. I still have some LBs left over from last year but I would still like to have a few extra boxes just incase. I can't remember seeing any patterns with the Roosters, but it would be nice to. I have an older 1100 that will only shoot 2 3/4" it would be nice to see what it will do with them. I also have an 1100 mag that I shot last year with some LB 6s, I can't really remember but I want to say it was around 185 in the 10" at 40yds. That was with a barrel that hasn't been polished, nor deep cleaned. Best I can remember it was a pretty even pattern as well, I can't remember what choke I had in at the time tho. I really want to hunt with it, but it looks like that gun just came out of the box, so I'm still on the fence about dragging it through the woods.
