I have the Primos True Double mouth call and I'm not all that crazy about it. What are some of your favorite mouth calls??? I'm just looking for a good mouth call that I can yelp and cut with.
XT havoc and riot. Steve is not making any mouth calls any more except friends, but he highly recommends Sadler McGraw. Plan on trying mcgraw's call this season as well as a few houndstooth. I am a v cutt and half bat wing kind of guy. Good luck
Sent from the Strut Zone
I'm bias but I like Gooserbat. Try my Bacon call, there is a reason I sell a tone of them, easy to use, light-medum rasp, and they call turkeys. I also have 9 others to pick from.
I like SS Calls and Mother Lode Calls... :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright:
Hooks and Houndstooth but I use small frames fwiw.

The entire line of Primos stacked frame(piggyback)mouth calls are my favorites especially the True Double and True Triple. I guess you will have to experiment a little to find one you really like. I have had good luck with HS Strut and Quaker Boy mouth calls also.
HS Strut and Woodhaven
Hook's for me!!!!
PeckerWrecker mouth calls by Kevin Farr
I have heard the Woodhaven calls are pretty good. I'm going to try out the Knight & Hale 'Preacher' and see how that one is.
The Primos Piggy Back True Double just sounds a little airy to me. But there is a very good chance it is the operator and not the call!
SS Custom Calls & Rut N Strut Game calls hands down are the best I've ever used! I keep several put back cause I'm afraid they might quite making them. I've been using Rut N Strut mouth call for 4 yrs now and I'll be using them until I cant or he quits making them!
God bless
Woodhaven are my favorite. They make some very good mouth calls that sound very good.
Long Spur Custom Mouth Calls are the best calls I have ever used.
Tom Teaser Butt Naked :icon_thumright:
Any Gulvas call
For me, no question, it's Sadler McGraw's new Champion's Choice line. He'll build you any standard cut you want and also do custom stuff for you. Quality products and he wants his customers happy.
I'll second gulvas and sadler
Mouth calls are so different for different ppl, I don't work well with heavy tape our thick reeds. Guys love calls like woodhaven but I can't play them as well as others. Hooks, houndstooth and halloran are the best for me out of the near 100 I've tried. Try a bunch they are cheap for the cost of a good pot call try and get 2 or 3 from about 5 different makers and go from there.
Hooks swindler, executioner, and seducer among others.
Primos hook hunter series red green and blue ones very easy to use and great tone
I like the raspy sister call from ZINK but I use a lot of custom calls from makers here in PA
Houndstooth
I use the SS mouth calls. The hit man & prospector are my favorites!
Gooserbat are the only custom mouth calls I have ran. I bought them last year, but unfortunately lost all but the one I had stuck in my cap at one time, somewhere through out a hunt. They were easy to run, and sounded great. I plan on ordering some more here shortly to replace what I lost.
After using many different brands and cuts throughout the years I will have to say to each his own as they are a lot like ford vs chevy vs dodge. Many great choices out there, just find one that works for you.
I presently use some of the Strike Zone mouth calls by Randy Panek but there have been a lot of good call makers mentioned in this thread as well. I also like Steve's XT Havoc calls and hope to some day try calls from Kevin at Peckerwrecker, Sadler's Champions Choice and some of Sam's from Goosebrat.
Good luck this coming spring no matter which calls you end up choosing.
I've used gooserbat calls for a few yrs now. None better. His calls are so consistent, year after year...
Ridge Top custom turkey calls makes excellent calls which require very little air pressure to run and he doesn't ask for your first born for his calls. On his Web site he has videos running all of his calls.
I REALLY like Woodhaven Red Wasp for super raspy hens calls. They take a lot of air so I mostly use them for calling when turkeys are a little fairly away and on windy days. I often use Cane Creek's Lost Poult when turkeys are close and I want to call softly. Does anyone know of any other diaphragm calls for calling soft?
Woodhaven Copperhead my all time favorite.
tom teaser butt naked hen, and down and dirty
Joe Slayton and Sadler McGraw make excellent mouth calls, and are 2 of my favorites.
I appreciate the kinds words about my mouth calls.
Some of you may know this, but Steve Kinder (XT Calls) is no longer making calls. He is referring many of his old clients to me. So if you were an XT fan, give me a shout here and I will try to get you something that your are familiar with running.
Sadler
Anything from Denny Gulvas. :icon_thumright:
Hooks calls are great
:turkey2: Another vote for Woodhaven. I ordered some from Steve Reeves, can't wait to get them. Al Baker
Denny Gulvas
"Master's Choice" is my all time favorite.... :you_rock:
Cane Creek makes excellent mouth calls my favorite is the Dead End. I will be trying the gooserbat bacon this year just hafta get it ordered. I might have to try a pecker wrecker just because I got a chuckle out of the name!
I use mostly Woodhaven but they may not be the easiest for some guys. I have heard Hooks is an easy to blow call but another option to look into is the MAD, red calls. Particularly the Venom. 2-1/2 reeds easy to use, no break in n does it all.
Another vote for Sadler, bought a couple calls from him after last season and will definitely be using them this year.
Houndstooth run the best for me. I love the sound.
Tom Teasers is second.
Wanting to try the Hooks and Sadlers though
Hooks for me.
We would like to invite you to give us a try if your in the market for a new mouth call this season. I think you will be happy with our product. Visit www.strongcalls.com for more info and out selection of calls.
Jim pollards elite calls I like his original bat wing 3 it's a awesome call. I've killed a lot of turkey's with that call.
Another vote for HOOKS!!! :OGturkeyhead:

Hooks and Houndstooth but I use small frames fwiw.
These two make great calls. I keep going to my houndstooth every time. I have heard great things about Gooserbat calls as well.
Gooserbat double bit and gooserbat bacon

bacon lead and turkey made me hungry so i just ordered a bacon
I just got a few Hooks calls a few days back. I gotta be honest, I haven't tried every call out there but I've tried a lot. Hooks are the easiest to use, no break in required calls I've ever seen.
They do everything perfect. Awesome calls. We'll field test em soon

I would be interested in getting one of your calls, can you let me know how i can get one?
Sadler
Give the bacon a try by gooserbat game calls. Easy to use with light-medium rasp
I use many different brands of mouth calls. I think it is a personal preference on what cuts and number of reeds, thickness of reeds. I have tried almost every major brand of mouth calls. Personally I like the Hooks Brand of mouth calls. They fit my palette well. The calls are really consistent in sound for me. The good thing about Hooks and some the new custom call companies is that they will custom make calls to your liking. To me it does not get any better than that. But in past have gotten some good calls from HS Strut, Knight and Hale, Quaker Boy, MADD and Perfection Calls to name a few. But from call to call the mass produced calls are not consistant. My old favorites were the Preston Pittman Black Diamond, Chris Parrish's Signature Call. My faviorites from Hooks are The Pro, The Finisher, The Inpersonator, Executioner and etc. I use to try and run the Primos True Double and to me that is a mouth full of a mouth call. But those that can run that call it sounds great. Just remember that every mouth call will not be for everyone. They must fit your mouth and seal to play well. Plus the call must be made well and consistently to produce good turkey calls. Have had to go through 100's of calls to find out which work for me.
I have a bad addiction for mouth calls now for over 25 years! Dropped over $400.00 at the 2015 NWTF on mouth calls alone! So far I'm impressed with Pollards original batwing III! Getting ready to place an order for some more Pollards! Also liking the Woodhaven red wasp, it's a great sharp sounding cutter! Good luck in your find!
I like Scott Ellis's calls from woodhaven (the yellow venom and his signature series specifically). I have my own press now, so I will be trying my own as well.
I never really put much thought into it before. I always bought a bunch of H.S. Strutt and Primos diaphragm calls from WingSupply each year (as well as a few other name-brands), cause they were cheap, and fit my pallet well...
I carefully cleaned and stored each call in the refrigerator last year, took them out, and the latex was loose on all of them...
I also noticed, I would find a call that ran well, and order another, and it would not sound the same... I found this to be very frustrating..
So this season I ordered some Woodhaven calls and some Gooserbrat calls... I just got the Woodhaven calls, and could not believe the difference in sound quality. I am looking forward to getting the Gooserbrat calls as well...
I talked to the owner of Gooserbrat, discussed the type of hunting and birds I am hunting, and he recommended several calls that he thought would fit my needs. I am looking forward to getting these calls. He was pleasant and helpful, and eager to talk to me about hunting.
I have a sneaking suspicion that any of the custom made diaphragms are going to be superior to the big-name brands... Probably what I will do in the future, is to go with a call I like from the previous season, and order a couple of calls from a different custom call maker. Hopefully I will be able to find some calls that fit my pallet and calling style...
.
thanks for some of the recommendations,I have ordered some calls from goose and sadler and picked up another called the preacher, these are all new to me.I have been using primos and quaker boy along with a few others in the last few years.

As a former user of name-brand calls myself, I would be curious as to your thoughts on the sound quality differences you perceive after getting the custom calls.
Hooks and Gooserbat diaphragms for me.
I keep a pretty good size collection of different calls and I like the different sounds I can get from each one. But when season rolls around, I lean on the Red Wasp (ghost cut) from Woodhaven.
Hook's Executioner 2 and Game Changer 3 are the best I've ever used!
