What is your favorite wood combo for box calls based on sound quality? Include which wood is for the box and which wood is for the paddle.

I'm not a callmaker but really like yellowheart lid with black limba box or bloodwood lid with either black limba or butternut for the box.

True enuff that nothing works ALL the time. There are so many proven combo's out there. But I guess I am just "old school"...ya just can't beat a good walnut or cherry lid on a good piece of poplar or butternut.  Mix em how ya want, they are usually solid.   ;)

Hen box Teak with a Snake Wood paddle but Macassar over Holly  or Bloodwood over Walnut both make a good combo.  I have a short box Al built with Bloodwood over Mineral Poplar that is simply badass.

Glad you like that call Richard. Bloodwood is another one that's getting hard to find with good red color. At least that's been my experience.

I'll have to agree with you on that Richard!!! I just kinda went with the boxes that most people seem to use, but I think you've changed a lot of folks playing habits the last couple of years!
