My eight year old and my eleven year old daughter want to hunt youth day this year (02 April in VA).
.410's are legal here and I know I have to bring the bird in to 20 yds or less...no worries there, its pretty thick where we hunt.
I have a Mossberg 500e/Bantam that they both shoot and enjoy with 3" #5 shot - throws a reasonable pattern out to 25 yrds...
So what I need is either irons or optics for it.
I bought a weaver rail at Gander, and am pondering drilling and tapping the receiver, but if there is an easier option will go that route.
Any idea?
Sean
The .410 is not drilled and tapped from the factory?
My sons Bantam 20 was.
No, didn't start life as a Bantam, it was a 500e that I added a Bantam stock to.
So that implies it can be done.
I do a minor amount of gunsmithing but am reluctant to do this myself...
Most kids shoot pretty good with fiber optics sights at 25 yards. I would probably just add some adjustable fiber optics. If they have done any open sight shooting they should be fine.
Otherwise, I would take the gun to a gunsmith to get it drilled.
