Title: Public Land Rios
Post by: alclark2 on September 18, 2014, 07:29:09 PM
Long story short... I'm not making my Alabama trip next year for spring break. The wife has other plans. This leaves me with an extra week of vacation time. I'm really wanting to go west and get on some public land Rios. I'm curious what state would be best. At first I thought Texas but public land turkey hunting seems to be nonexistent besides a few draws. I'm not reading good reviews on other forums either. I know they have good hunting on private land. I started researching Oklahoma today. I found a few WMAs That looked promising. I have not looked into Nebraska at all yet. Any input would be appreciated.

Sorry! I should include it isn't my SB, it's the wife's. I am flexible and can take a week off whenever next spring.

Kansas has them. Pressure gets worse every year. Still can get on a few.

The above quote is true, especially in the early part of their season. Go later and the WIHA (walk in) areas will have little to no pressure.

I hunt both Oklahoma and Kansas.  Both are good if you schedule your hunt when the pressure is light.  I like it late.

I didn't think about Kansas WIHA. Good idea.

The weather during the second half of the season in Kansas is usually better, too.
