Title: Mossy 835 choke.?
Post by: Bro2032 on September 11, 2014, 12:04:25 PM
I've used the search, and can't quite find what I'm looking for.
My question is, I've got two 835s. The one has the truglo ssx, and I want to try something different in my other gun. I'll be shooting Long Beard XR 3.5" #6.
Help me pick a choke.

Thanks.!!

Pure Gold in .670 is a good one, the factory Mossberg choke which I believe is .695 is another or a Jelly Head in .695.  Remember each barrel is different so what works for one may not work for another.  For the price the Jelly Head can't be beat IMO.

I shoot several of the Mossberg overbored barrelled guns and a good bit depends on the length of the barrel.

In addition to the SSX which you're currently using, the Bone Collector, JEB's and the Pure Gold all work well.

I  am also evaluating a new 835 choke currently and it's showing a good bit of promise.

One thing that may help you regardless of the choke you use is to "deep clean" the bore. It just makes any shell or choke work better.

Thanks,
Clark

I recently shot the longbeard 3.5 inch in #5 shot with a x-factor 695 choke and was very impressed

675 should fix you up.   Now I would think about 4's or 5's in that big bore.

I picked up to Indian creek this spring for my 835 and use long beard. It was devastating. But it was devastating combo with any load

IC .675 835 LBs or Thugs  are definitely devastating.

My stardot is real good, but my indian creek is even better in my 835.

There is a new player in the 835/935 field. Hevi-Shot just introduced their line of non-ported turkey chokes and the one for the overbored Mossberg guns has a lot of potential. I'll be shooting it more next week, since the weather is cooperating now and will let you know what I see with some different shells.

Thanks,
Clark
