Came across a fellow today who had some older magazines I had never heard of, American Wild Turkey News. Some nice articles and each has a piece by Earl Mickel. One I really enjoyed was an article on Mr. Kenny Morgan.

Thanks for the article on my dear friend, Kenny Morgan. That was one I had missed. How I miss him and our frequent phone calls. I am so glad we told each other how much we loved each other about a week before his death. Don't let your close friends fail to hear you say the words. It will mean so much for so long to the survivor and it will give much peace to the departing friend.
Do you guys know of any other turkey hunting only magazines? Turkey & Turkey Hunting has folded. I would love to find another that is dedicated ONLY to turkey hunting.
ANybody know why turkey and turkey hunting folded? I was just getting ready to begin my subscription back!

It's a very tough world for the print media, regardless of subject. Magazines are supported by advertisers. The more "unique" the subject or the reader, the harder it is to get them to support a magazine.
One magazine that Doris has sent to me,
Esquire, normally has the first 26 or 27 pages just in ads. The rest of the magazine had ads interspersed about every other page. Apparently the readership is wide enough and diverse enough to prompt those advertisers to pay for space month after month.
We turkey hunters are a pretty small group, comparatively, and when the target audience is pretty small, advertisers are reluctant to commit dollars. As circulation dwindles, advertisers pull out and soon there is just not enough money to justify the magazine.
I remember a few years ago when there was a terrible outcry from readers of the NWTF magazine about the increased number of ads in the magazine and how it had gotten away from articles strictly about turkey hunting.
While I'm not privy to the thoughts or actions of the editorial staff, I can guess that the diversification was an attempt, apparently successful, to gain more advertisers and keep the magazine in print.
Thanks,
Clark

Turkey and turkey hunting is still alive just online. Can't afford to print a magazine.
