Thanks ya'll. It is Black Walnut/Buffalo Horn. Not the best wood for a trumpet but I was mainly just trying to establish the process and starting-point design to use as a reference. It actually sounds much better than I expected it to. I consider this my first trumpet because it is the first one I've made that I thought about the design and set out to make a trumpet yelper. Many years ago I was just messing around on the lathe with a piece of scrap and one thing led to another and I turned a yelper of sorts, but at the time I knew nothing about them so I don't really consider that my first bonafide yelper.
That's mighty nice, and your first one.... Wow
Nice turn. What's wrong with walnut?
That's a great start!
It looks great, a lot better than my first.
Don't sell walnut for a trumpet short. I have made trumpets out of cocobolo, blackwood, padauk, ebony, and several other woods and the one I hunt with is made of black walnut.
And by the way, that's a great looking trumpet.
Nice!
