I use a beard buster belt now and I really like it. I added some things to my belt and it does really well for my style of hunting. I hsd one years ago and it held up great, lasted about 4 seasons. I bought a new one thid year and it was falling apart within 3 weeks.
I had a guy say he saw something similar that looked a little better thst was new for 2014. He thinks he saw it on primos website but I csnt find it there and neither csn he now.
I've looked at the cabelas spees seat 1/2 and many other things. Anybody else got any ideas? I'm very Interested in the product this man seen once but I can't seem to find it and he csnt remember what it was called.
There's a couple reasons I don't wear a vest. 1. I like an athletic fit and most vest fit too loose and bulky. If I were to try another vest I definitely wouldn't get a one size fits all, I'd get a small/medium or maybe even a women's vest if it had enough pockets.
I worked in 7 gobblers thst died this year and didn't wear a vest for any of em. I would like to have a vest for those days it's cold in thr morning snd Warms up and ya gotta she'd clothes. Another reason I'd like a vest is for rainy days so you can put out a rain jacket on over it and keep your gear half way dry. This pack I use leaves your gear exposed and ya gotta come home and dry everything out. Most times it rained this year I just took mouth calls and thst was it.
The vest I have is a like new bucklick creek lounger from basspro. If anybody has a vest that I might would like maybe we could work out a trade. I'd try the russell limbhanger or tactical tat'r 2 if they were a size small/medium.
In the meantime though I would like to find a new pack other than a vest cuz most days I won't wear a vest anyways even if I do find one I like.
Thanks
Justin

I've gone to a Brossie Bag, which is a possibles style shoulder bag made for turkey hunting.
Check it out at: www.brossie.com/shoulder-hunting-bag.html
Click on the YouTube link and see how much it can carry in the video they have.
Really like mine! :icon_thumright:

I cant believe stickbow beat me to the brossie bag.
actually I use a very similar bag to the brossie but it is made by Penn's woods.
I was looking for a new one this year as my Penn's woods is about 15yrs old now. And I found out that it is no longer made.
So I bought the brossie. Its a great bag and the only real difference is that my Penn's woods has a thin nylon waist strap that keeps it from swinging when you have to run or hustle along. This is an add on that will be easy to add when this becomes my full time bag. As you can see in the pics it is laid out very well for a turkey hunter with special pockets for all sorts of calls.
That bag looks great. Can you carry a flexible decoy in there minus all the calls they depict? I don't carry but a couple mouth calls, 2 tube calls and maybe a pot call. I really like that bag better than the vest I currently wear.
HUh I like the bag idea. I currently use the beard bust waist belt, its better then the vest I had and better then using a back pack but I am still not thrilled with my set-up. I have been tossing the idea of trying a vest again but this bag intrigues me.
What do you guys use for a eat pad and how do you move with that?
Many moons ago I used a bag very much like this that was of military origin. I think they called them map bags. Somehow, it disappeared.
Yes you guys will like the bag and without all of the calls a decoy should fit. If you go to the Brossie site
thwre is a you tube video and you can see the load out they he puts into the bag.
this will give you a better idea of the actual size.
Thanks for this thread, I just ordered a brossie bag
Do they make them in bottom land like the one in stickbows pic? All I see is MOBU
Like the bag idea, several time a year I go with only a mouth call, shotgun and cushion, amazing, it feels like I am naked in the turkey woods! I am usually toting a blind decoys(stuffers) bow, vest. Love those few days running around with nothing on!
I love my ol Tom shirt and pants. Has all the pockets I need already in them, and its the only shirt or pants I can find that are made specifically for turkey hunters.

I couldn't find one.
Give them a call and ask them about the camo options. When I ordered mine it just happened to come in Bottomland. (I expected the MOBU actually.)
As for a seat, I use either a pad that I can clip to my belt loop, or I sometimes carry a folding stool I can sling over my shoulder.

Allen makes one. The price is good but I've never seen one in person. I don't think this is the one I mentioned to you but it may be worth a look.

The link Howl posted is the pack no used for years. I loved thst thing and haven't been able to find another one since. That thing held up for several HARD seasons. Very good pack. I wish I could find another one.
I've just about decided on something. I'm gonna continue to use the beard buster or something similar for my go to calls and will more than likely just use it on most days. However I think I'm going to invest in a nice day pack that doesn't bounce around if I need to run to reposition on one. Also I'd like it to be designed where I could set up against a tree with the pack on if I needed to. This pack would be used to hold water, box call, rain gear, maybe a layer or 2 I she'd as thr day warms up, pruners, maybe a couple candy bars and that's about it. I like packs thst have pockets to secure everything. I don't want a $100+ box in 5 here just flopping around. I've never bought a nice day pack before, ive always just went with the nicest Walmart had to offer and right now that's a $30 field line I use for stand hunting whitetails. Works great for that but I wouldn't wanna lug it around for miles in the turkwy woods. If I go this route I am going to get a nice pack that will do just what I need it to do and ride great on my back. If it don't id never use it.
I use my old school bag. This one is a north face, model I'm unsure of. Fits nice. I can walk for miles without noticing it. Holds what I need, want, and could hold more. What you see there is what I bring with me. Late in the morning, when it gets warm, I stuff my jacket in there. The side pockets keep me a box call and drink handy while walking. The paper towel and thermacell ride in the large pocket. When I'm sitting the bag sits, open, next to me so I can get what I want easily. I clip my seat cushion to the back for walking. If the lack of camo bothers you.... I'm sure you can find one in olive drab, brown, or whatever.

A pack is ok but with the shoulder bag most of your calls are actually very accessible as you walk along. The pot calls are in individual pouches just inder the flap and all your other stuff is available to you just by feel. So as I walk along and stop to make a call or 2 I can just reach down grab a call that I choose and make a call. With the pack you have to take it of open it up and grab what you need. All of that fumbling \ound just seems annoying to me.
This has individual pouches for 2 pots and 4 strikers. It possible to fit more but I don't feel the need for more. Like you said though all calls are not accessible while walking. How is the shoulder bag for walking long distances?

Like I said earlier. Right now I am using a bag made by Penns Woods, very similar to the Brossie the only noticable difference it the lack of the 1/2" nylon waste strap. I have been using the penns woods for about 15yrs and I sometimes cover 5-10 miles in a day. The waste strap makes it almost unnoticeable. This belt is something that can be added to the Brossie for a few bucks. I even set up with out taking the bag off. I just sit down just in case I have to make a move in a hurry. No issue at all I can even dig my things out while sitting.
Thanks. I'm liking the sounds of this brossie.

Didn't know they still made the Ol Tom shirt/pants. I've just about worn mine out. Plenty of pockets inside and out of the shirt....Who makes them now? Thanks.
Ol' tom vestless shirt, get a box call pouch that goes on a belt and youd be good to go.
good back pack can carry extra layers, water, knife ect. its the way to go for lots of hiking
After I placed my order for a brossie, I emailed them asking for one in bottomland. I never got a response, but it just came in bottomland. So, they are available.

Thats great. Actually mine is in AP green.
What do you think.
I will know later after I get home and stuff it.
The Brossie is ok, mine is AP. They make it look appealing in their video but I will tell you, it gets heavy when you try and pack it all in. You definitely figure out what you can do without....

Well here is my thoughts on the Brossie now that I have my gear in it.
Everyone is different, but for me being mobile and not feeling bulky is very important. Also, being able to just grab my gear and go is important as well. I use less and less gear every year. I also use a diaphragm call 99.8% of the time, so I don't carry many calls.
Basically, I think this shoulder bag is perfect for my style of hunting. After adding my gear I carried it a bit, sat down a few times against a tree, and took it off and on a bunch. It is completely out of the way, comfortable, and I like that I can access everything easily. I also like that I can quickly sit down against a tree without having to take it off.
Here is what I have in it:
Box call
1 slate call
3 strikers
Owl hooter
crow call
Thermacell
turkey carrier
License and success gear
digital fishing type scale
small camera
spare diaphragm call
chalk and scotchbrite pads
compass
knife
Thanks again guys for bringing this pack to my attention.

Glad you're happy with the bag, Terry.
You pack very similar to me, except I always carry one very important emergency item... "T.P."!!! :funnyturkey:
Good hunting,
