Title: Fiber optic sights or red dot??
Post by: Fourcooks on May 20, 2014, 07:32:52 PM
Just wanted to know what the general preference is. I am going to change the factory sights on my Mossberg 535 and am very intrigued my a red dot.  Specifically the Bushnell TRS 25 and the TruGlo TruBrite.  So what do most of you guys use, open sights or red dot?  Thanks

I have one shotgun with FO open sights, one with a scope and three with red dots. IMO you can't beat a red dot.

Love the red dots, I have a ff3 on my 20 gauge 11-87, trs-25 on my daughters 20, sightron on my 20 gauge 870, and Bushnell red/green dot on my 12 gauge 11-87.  I like the ff3 the best and the trs-25 is  a close 2nd.

I prefer a red dot myself.

I like the fiber optic rifle sights.  Had a bad experience with a battery in a red dot  cost my little girl a turkey.  It was my fault but after that no more batteries on my turkey guns.

I put fiber optics on this year and I did get a turkey with no problem.  However I'm now having a hard time with them as I pursue my second one.  Maybe my astigmatism I'm not sure but they are quite blurry to me.  I'm thinking a red dot next year

Not sure if a red dot will help with an astigmatism.   I think surgery or corrective lenses can fix that.

I like the red dot fastfire 3, gets 10,000 hours battery life, lifetime warranty, low battery indicator, adjust your dot to how you like it, water proof, put a modified choke in your turkey gun and you can use it on numerous other small game with 2 3/4 inch shells.

Well I wear contacts that correct for it but I'm struggling with seeing the target plus the front and rear sights...I was thinking a red dot would be better.  May be my contact is just konking out on me though.  However yesterday I zeroed my AR with a new red dot optic and worked like a charm.  Again...probably my aging eyes but I'm thinking a red dot better than lining up three things for me right now.

Gotcha.  The red dot is very simple.   I hear you on lining the dots up.
