Title: Hevi shot leaking
Post by: mikejd on May 15, 2014, 09:15:56 PM
So I have Buffer and #6's falling out of my gun and a pocket full of buffer and shot. Pretty poor quality control for  5$ a shot. No?

hevi shot has always done that, can't count the shells that I poured wax on to stop this

Yeah, that's why I only buy from a store where I can open the boxes and inspect them first.

I put a thin coat of nail polish on mine.

Thanks for the ideas. I like how the new LB's are completely sealed.

I just bought two boxes of 3/2/7s from Cabelas a couple of weeks ago.  All of the shells had a clear glue type material over the crimp on the end of the shell.  It didn't appear that any of mine were leaking buffer.

Mine had that as well. After a few days of huntin that all fell off and the began leaking.
I know now that I can fix it but at 5$ a shell I dont think I should have to.
I have winchester Supremes laying around for 15 yrs and they look better.

Had same thing happen. A little dab of Alex DAP calk rubbed in sealed it right up, but at the price it should not happen.

Wax treatment works for me when I have one leaking.

I haven't had a HeviShot shell leak in maybe 5-6 years, but they sure used to...

Early Win XR's used to leak so bad, it would jam the magazine follower...

I will wax a shell now if it looks the be leaking...

had early win XR pour it out.
Have alot of 20 gauge heavy from at least 08 , no leaks.
Thanks for the sealing tips guys.

A dab of Alex Plus (Lowes or Home Depot) is what most of the handloaders use.

about 40% of my hevi shells have leaked buffer, never any shot that I saw.. agreed its just poor quality when you have to fix a premium product. Longbeards are sealed up great, hope they make a 20ga shell next year
