Title: hen scout
Post by: Willow Sticks on May 11, 2014, 08:30:17 PM
Any one ever encounter a hen scouting for a tom? I had a hen come running wide open from 100 yards to my call while the tom strutted slowly towards me. She made my decoy before he got close enough to die and she did a 180 and went right back to the tom and they left. Never came closer.

I have had that happen multiple times...

I think they come into a hen call and hen decoy for the same reason a tom comes into a jake...  To display dominance.

With the older foam decoys, I had several hen decoys get torn up by other hens...  More times, I had them come in yelping and leave putting before the tom arrived though.

All the time.  She ain't scouting for the tom...she's doing it for herself.  And she can get mean about it.  ;)
