What do you consider the best wood striker for a crystal pot call? Lost both of my strikers for this call on the walk out from a successful hunt. I've replaced the carbon striker but would like a couple new wood strikers also.
I really like diamond wood or purple heart. I love Harold fowler strikers. he is great to deal with and wont break the bank. I have 2 dozen of his strikers and they are the only ones I use. of course that's just my personal opinion and preference.
I really like my Dad's Purpleheart on Glass/Crystal.
Purple heart
Purple Heart
BLOODWOOD :icon_thumright:
Tulipwood
They make a so, so call sound a lot better, they work great on any glass or slate calls.
Thats the thing with pots and strikers. I don't really think that there is a best. Every different variation may get a bird fired up. One time I was walking with this veteran turkey hunter and every few hundred yards he would fumble through his vest and pull out a different striker and proceed to make the lousiest call I have ever heard. Sometimes he would go through 3 or 4 strikers before moving on. I was looking at him and going what is he doing and sur enough on the 3rd or 4th striker he gets a gobble. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. So you never know what bird wants to hear what combo.
Macassar Ebony, Tulipwood, and Black Locust, or Purple Heart depending on the call.
Dads purpleheart, monkeywood and charcoal laminate
Fowler Ipe, 2 PC snake wood, black locust, bubinga, Honduran rosewood
Woodhaven laminated birch
Yingling fiber rod
Lights Out dymondwood
Halloran 2 PC Macassar ebony

Quite a list! I haven't run all of those on crystal but I have run a lot of them, and the ones you've listed here are great!
Purpleheart or monkeywood
I like dymondwood for louder calling and dads monkeywood to tone it down a bit.
Purpleheart or dymondwood...
Hollaran yellowheart
I always come back to a halloran one piece purpleheart but love yellowheart and macassar ebony too.. In fact those are the only three ive run in the woods all year now that I think about it
All of the above mentioned work well. I also have an Ipe and Kwila striker that sound really good on crystal.
My crystal over glass was sounding great with padauk this morning. My gobbler would tell you so but he can't now!
