I've got a Remington 870 super mag and just installed a blackhawk/knoxx adjustable stock on it. The packaging says 2 3/4" & 3" shells only. Will shooting the 3 1/2" shells damage the stock or risk injury? Thanks for any input !
Anyone ?
Call the maker. I would not shoot a 3.5 with that stock in fear of loosing teeth.
Well I can tell you this, my buddy put one on a 835, I shot a 3.5 inch 2.25 oz Winchester supreme out of it and it felt like a donkey kicked me in the teeth. And yes, this was the recoil REDUCING model.
If you use this stock make sure you read how to properly place stock on your face. When I bought mine I just put ammo in and pulled the trigger and as posted above , a donkey kicking me in the face would have felt better. I then noticed the little piece of paper that told me how to place my face to the stock and have had no more problems and it works great. You have to lightly place your face to the stock, not firmly as you would normally place your face to a normal stock. It will tame the 3.5 inch shells. I would not shoot the 3.5 if it says it is for 3inch or under, the spring in the stock may not be able to handle the extra power but I would call manufacture to find out for sure.
The stock was made for heads up combat shooting not head down sport shooting. Yes it reduces recoil off the shoulder but there is an upward surge of energy that will be driven into your cheek bone if your cheek is down tight against the stock.
Thanks all. I shot gun today "heads up" with 3" shells and did just fine. I did notice the upward surge with that stock though. Stock takes a lot of wallop out of those turkey loads!
