Title: Fluctuation ?
Post by: Canteathorns on April 28, 2014, 02:26:15 PM
Need some answers . Shooting an 870 express mag with a primos tite wad .660  .  Shooting long beards  3" 6s . Got 160 n 10  , went back and got 208 n 10 . Why is there so much difference in numbers ?

It's not unusual for pellet counts to vary or fluctuate. I have found that most lead shotshells I have tested usually stay within about 30 pellets or so. The Long Beards have been more consistent than most and have stayed within 20 or less for most shots. Weather, condition of the bore, and how you clean between shots all affect the out come.

colder weather = lower pellet counts on paper. You didn't say whether the temp was the same or different so this is just a guess

Temps 65 for low numbers  75 for high numbers . Not complaining because either is good for me .

Using a tico tool in between shots, the LB 6's have remained consistent for me. I have seen some variations in 5 patterns. Patterns cut in half, dense core with shot scattered around etc. going to test more this summer.
