Title: Mossberg 535, great shooter; awful trigger
Post by: Onpoint on April 23, 2014, 09:09:49 PM
Just like the title says, this gun throws an amazing pattern but has the worst trigger I've ever felt on a shotgun except my wife's new mossberg super bantam. They both feel awful. All of my guns hsve really nice triggers and this trigger is definitely gonna have to go. I would like to find a LPA trigger for it but haven't been able to find one anywhere?  Anybody know where I csn get one and if not what other options do I have. I have a buddy thst does a great trigger job on rifles but he hasn't ever been able to tske thr travel out of shotgun triggers.  He can get them better but still not great. I'm not looking for a super light match trigger just something a little better than this. Something around 3.5-4lbs with a good crisp break.

Actually it ain't that bad. I hate a hard kicking gun. Was considering going to a 20 and I still plan on getting one. I built a 12 Guage baikal single shot that weighs 5.25 pounds and that thing kicks like a mule. I don't know if its where I've halfass got used to it or what, but the 535 really don't seem that bad to me.

I had one a few years ago. 3.5s out of it absolutely pounded me. I'm no small guy either, pounded my cheek. My old 535 is the hardest hitting gun I've ever shot.

535 trigger group can be worked on to make an exceptional trigger if you know what to do. The biggest problem I've seen is the excessive take up. A competent gunsmith can work wonders with the trigger group you already have. They are adjustable, but modifications have to be made.

My 535 tactical turkey has minimal creep and minimal take-up after being modified which makes for a crisp trigger like my hunting rifles have.

I really like the LPA triggers. It seems that I saw one recently and it may be that I have a spare as well. I'll check and see.

Thanks,

If I could get a LPA from Mossberg and put it into my 835, then it would be absolutely a perfect Turkey Killn' Shotgun. My factory trigger is heavy. I put a Limbsaver on it and it is a pleasure to shoot the 3.5" shells. Unfortunately Mossberg will not even let me send them the gun to install the LPA, much less ship the trigger to let me to do it. Anyone that has the LPA? How many pounds do you have it set at?

I have not put a scale on the 2 that I have but they are both set at the lightest setting possible.

They are excellent.

Thanks,
