Title: And Then It Hits You
Post by: PEPPERHEAD on April 17, 2014, 09:07:47 PM
As I was standing in one of my favorite afternoon listening spots a few days ago, it hit me. That feeling.  Then I realized.  This is why we do this. The peace. The quite. The beauty. Priceless. I pity the people who never get to experience this.

You got that right!! That's why we are out there!! Not for the kill, that's just icing on the cake!! But instead, the experience of being there!!! :icon_thumright:

You don't have to be a turkey hunter to experience that. Anyone can get up and seek out a rural setting.

As a turkey hunter, the spring would just be another pretty time of the year without turkeys.  Nothing any more or less spectacular than the other seasons.

We've been up at 3 am 5 days this week and driven over 1500 miles to watch turkeys die. And they have.

Y'all can sugarcoat it all you want but the kill and quality interaction w turkeys is the reason we rise. It's all about the kill.

Well I can certainly agree with both points of view.  I can't begin to describe the enjoyment of being able to be out in the wild places that turkeys inhabit, however this year has been unusually tough for me and I'm ready to kill one.  It's not all about the killing of a turkey, but that is absolutely a part of it.

It hit's me when I get in the truck in the mornings.  I realize the hardest and most aggravating thing I'm going to have to deal with that day is a gobbler, life is good!!!
