Title: Jelly Head Maximum Rem 870 fitting issue?
Post by: Gutsdozer on April 17, 2014, 06:25:57 AM
Hello,

I recently bought a Jelly Head Maximum for my Remington 870 express. Seems to shoot fine but I noticed something. The tapered edge at the top of the choke where it seems like the barrel should fit flush again doesn't fit flush. There is roughly 1/32 lip of the barrel that doesn't come in contact with the tapered part of the choke. Essentially creating a 1/32 portion at the very end of the barrel that has no contact with the choke. Is this normal for a Jelly Head Maximum? It's tight as can be but if I were to drop the gun I can see how it might curl that edge over and make the choke very hard to get out.

I think it's normal. Mine is the same way. Also, I had to ditch the zombie o rings.

A lot of chokes don't fit absolutely flush with the barrel. It's all in the tolerances used in the manufacturing process.

I have the same choke in a 11-87 20 ga. Mine looks like its seated on the barrel. If its not, its very close. I might try to wrap a piece of sewing tread around it and then screw it down and try pulling it out.   cluck

Odd that the 20 gauge would fit flush and the 12 not...Maybe I'm just being OCD about it.

Bottoming on the end of the barrel is not a good thing if the choke is not bottomed on the shoulder in the ID of the barrel.  I have run into the problem before.  I had to machine the shoulder back on the choke so that it bottomed on the shoulder in the barrel.
