Title: Illinois northern zone help
Post by: turkeynewb on April 16, 2014, 02:16:04 PM
No gobbling at all, seeing no birds, no answer to owl hooter. Half mile away is a flock of 23 birds with 4 of them being toms strutting. You think its to early or the bad weather keeping them quiet?

Are you hunting public ground that is getting pounded by other hunters?  Weather could be a factor, I mean we had an inch of snow two days ago and bitter cold again, today finally back up in the high 40's.

I'm in NW illinois and they are pretty quiet by me still. I just saw 3 toms with 2 hens yesterday. These 20 degree nights and that inch of snow we got the other day ain't helpin any.

Called for a friend on public wednesday, heard more birds there than I did on private where I killed my bird the day before, he smoked a nice one!
