I have a new ceramic call that just doesn't produce the sounds I was hoping for. I've read that ceramic doesn't need conditioning, but no matter what striker I try, I feel they are not grabbing enough. Does anyone have striker recommendations and or what I can do to fix the issue?
Thanks,
'Vinny
I use a stone on a stick to condition my ceramic. Scoot
Try 120 paper or a conditioning stone
I have a zebra wood that seems to be ok whether I condition or not.

This is what I do, too. Makes a difference.
Personally, it holds conditioning but it needs to be conditioned.

Vinny, If it is a custom call, I would talk to the call maker. I have found that the call makers are always more than willing to work through issues that may arise with their calls. I had a call maker make me a new call and send it out at no charge when the original call didn't work as well has I thought it should. These call makers are fine craftsmen and take great pride in their work, so drop him a line and I bet he helps you out.
Good luck with the call and this season...
I condition mine with a stone
David Halloran's Ipe striker is deadly on ceramic!
Try some box call chalk on it
You might try cleaning the surface. I use alcohol. Might just be slick from touching it.
Thanks for advice. I scuffed it up a bit with a stone then went over it with scotch brute, cleaned it and sounds better now. Also tried it with some chalk and that seems to help the striker grab better.
