Title: Help with my pattern beretta a400 factory full choke
Post by: Gasfish26 on April 09, 2014, 08:53:57 PM
Hello

Just need some help in the right direction.  I am using a beretta a400 with a factory optibore hp full choke.

60 degrees temp
40 yards laser range finder
Standing shot
10 inch target

Shells were 3.5 inch win xr long beards #5 with 66 pellets

and

3.5 inch rem nitro #5 with 40 pellets

Question? What's wrong with my set up. Do I need a tighter choke?
Suggestions if so...

Thanks

First  :welcomeOG:    You need to shoot at a big paper and do it from a rest if possible even your knee with your back up against a tree is better than standing...don't worry about the 10" circle till after you shoot.  Reason being your sights may simply be off or you pulled the shot one way or the other.  Once you establish what your total pattern looks like then you can make an informed decision.  Also make sure and give your bore a good cleaning to start with and swab a time or two between shots to give you the fairest evaluation across all your shots.  Hope that helps, good luck....this is precisely why it's a bad idea to just buy a gun/choke/shells and go hunting...you'll get it figured out with a little work

Probably nothing really wrong with your setup.  Shoot at a single spot on a large sheet of cardboard.  This will tell you two things.  Where your gun is hitting compared to where you are aiming and will also let you see the actual density of your pattern.  Good luck.

Buy a turkey choke.

I have the A400 as well and found the two best chokes for that gun to be a "Pattern Master Code Black Turkey" choke & "Sumtoy" choke.

See if you can find a promo code for the marsh mutt company and order it from there. mm15 was the code I used and it may still work. With that you'll get 15% off and free shipping. $85 to your door.

Make sure your get the code black turkey if you go the patternmaster route.

Ok so I was able to test out this combo

Win LB xr 3.5 inch 12 gauge #4 shot
40 yards laser
Sitting with sticks
66 F
Slight wind
Patternmaster code black turkey .660 choke
Beretta a400
Clean barrel, but not polished

I counted 155 hits in a ten inch circle

What do you think?
Would #5 shot give me more hits?
How do I get 200+ hits:)?
