Title: Turkey load recommendation
Post by: Redletterdays on April 04, 2014, 06:52:02 PM
Hey guys,

Was wondering if you guys could give me some advise on some turkey load recommendation.

I have a mossberg 535 turkey thug with Indian creek choke

I don't have access to hevi-shot or the new long beard. Any suggestions?

Thanks

I have the same set up and it likes 3" #6  turkey thugs from walmart.

My suggestion is to go get several different brands and try and see what your gun likes. Lead loads are fairly inexpensive and readily available. The Turkey Thugs are good as rocky suggested as well as Federal HW. This year I'm shooting MagBlends but I used to buy Winchester Double X and Winchester Supremes. Go grab several boxes, hit the patterning board and see what you like. Good Luck!

Walmart thugs. Shop around for long beards.

Winchester XX are hard to beat for price and performance. Pick the size shot recommended for your choke, pattern it, then go kill a bird.

I'd be on the phone with Bass Pro, Cabelas, Macks Prairie Wings... and order some Longbeard #6 and #5 I will bet that either would shoot good.
