Title: Nebraska Gobblers?
Post by: 1tiogabowhunter on April 04, 2014, 12:54:15 PM
Getting ready to head to Nebraska next weekend for the opener.  Wanted to see if anyone has been hunting the early bow season and see what the birds are up to.  Back east we are running behind a few weeks due to the long winter and cool spring.

Thanks

My buddy went up Wednesday, weather has been really bad. Not much gobbling, birds have busted up
For the most part. Been so windy birds have been in the woods. He did see two good Toms today and has a blind set up for tomorrow morning.
Weather will break starting tomorrow, should get better as week goes on. I'm headed up on Monday,
Few days of bow hunting before gun season. We will save a few for you guys getting here on the weekend.

Did ya have much luck on the opener?  Birds in our area seemed to be henned up pretty good.  We couldn't pull them off the hens.  We thought may be setting a jake decoy out would help but they just stood with their hens and looked at it.  Thinking about going out in another two to three weeks.  Hopefully the gobblers are a little lonely by then.

Yes killed these 3 long beards.  Two were 3 year olds and another was a 2 year old.  The gobblers were bunched up and with some hens but I called in the hens and was able to kill two of the three with one shot.  The other came in with a jake at 230 in the afternoon
